Awesome Off-road

Polaris has unwrapped two powerful UTVs for 2022. The RZR Turbo R packs a 181 hp turbocharged engine, while the RZR Pro R has a 2.0L naturally-aspirated engine with 225 hp. Both ride on a 74″ wide track, and offer suspension travel of 28″ to 29″, with the Pro R adding adaptive damping. Both come in 2-seat and 4-seat configurations.

Ford Performance will make just 50 of its $200,000 Bronco DR, a production desert racer with a 5.0L Coyote V8. Ready to race, it has a roll cage, Multimatic suspension with 15.8″ front travel and 17.4″ rear travel, and body and chassis upgrades to handle high-speed off-road travel in the Baja 1000. It rides on massive 37-inch BFG tires.

Chevy turned up at SEMA 2021 with this over-the-top desert runner truck. It’s based on the chassis of a Silverado short bed with a shortened frame, a Chromoly roll cage, and an extra-wide stance. It rocks a custom off-road suspension, massive 37″ tires, and is powered by a 6.2L supercharged LT4 V8 that makes 650 hp.

This rugged electric longboard is ready for any terrain. The 40″ long bamboo and maple board has dual 1500-watt motors and 8″ pneumatic all-terrain tires. Its top speed is 30 mph, its max. range is 25 miles, and it can climb hills up to a 35% gradient. It also comes in an Extreme model with aluminum guards and off-road lights.

The Warthog from Halo is one of the most iconic vehicles in the history of video games. There have been many replicas built over the years, but none as badass as Hoonigan’s, an off-road race truck with a 1000 hp twin-turbo V8 engine and 4-wheel steering. The Tesla Model 3 is a modern and zippy electric daily driver. Now it’s off-road capable thanks to Rich Rebuilds and Grind Hard Plumbing Co.. They started with a totaled Model 3 with all-wheel-drive, fixed its electrical issues, widened its wheel spacing, lifted it 2″, and added a 12,000 lb. winch and Falken Wildpeak off-road tires.

What do you do when you need to transport a school bus across a dry lake bed? You tow it with a bigger bus, naturally. That’s what the guys from DieselSellerz did with their red-white-and-blue “Freedom Bus” which dwarfed the little yellow school bus bringing up the rear.

Morgan’s two-seaters are usually driven on tracks or for touring. But the Plus Four CX-T can take drivers across rugged off-road terrain. Built with Rally Raid UK, the car has a custom suspension offering 9″ of ground clearance, larger tires, skid plates, and a rear storage area for tools and spare tires. Just eight of the cars will be produced.

Inspired by the Defender Works V8 Trophy, Land Rover will make just 220 of the 2022 Defender Trophy Edition. Based on the Defender 110 P400 X-Dynamic SE, it has a special yellow and black wrap, black trim and wheels, air suspension, an 11.4-inch touchscreen, the Cold Climate, Off-road, and Advanced Off-road Capability packs.

A real buggy inspired by the 1980s Tamiya Wild One R/C car. The Wild One Max is an 8/10th-scale one-seater with an off-road suspension and an electric motor. It rides on 15″ tires, has Brembo disc brakes, a roll cage, and digital gauges. Its rear-wheel-drive system has 5.5 bhp and a top speed of 30 mph, but upgrades will be available.

Jeep’s most capable off-road SUV now comes in a plug-in hybrid. We spent a day driving the Wrangler 4xe on and off-roads around Austin, Texas, putting its powerful drivetrain to the test. Not only does the 4xe have 375hp and 470 lb-ft. of torque, it can drive up to 21 miles on pure electric power and does 0-to-60 in 6 seconds.

Got an aspiring little off-roader in your house? Your kid will be the coolest in the neighborhood with this awesome bed that looks ready to hit the trails. Land Rover amps up its new Defender with supercharged V8 versions of the Defender 110 and Defender 90, cranking out 518hp, with 22″ alloys and quad exhaust. Inside, you’ll find Miko Suedecloth and Robustec accents. The V8 Carpathian Edition has metallic grey paint, a black roof, hood, and tailgate, and a satin-matte protective film.

This one-wheeled electric vehicle not only can ride over city streets but can handle rugged, off-road terrain. It has an air-spring suspension system with 3.3″ of vertical travel and an 18″x3″ tire for absorbing shocks. Its 2200W motor can hit speeds of 30 mph or more, and can climb angles up to 35 degrees.

EV startup Alpha Motor Corporation is showing off a sweet pure-electric vehicle that looks ready for off-road rallying. This rugged amphibious vehicle uses four hydraulic wheel motors to move its tracks just like a military tank. It can crawl over just about any terrain, through swamps and mud, and is is equipped with heavy duty componentry for longevity. It can also be equipped with a cockpit shell and even an air-conditioned interior.

This awesome Porsche 911 was built by Singer for its All-terrain Competition Study. Working with rally expert Richard Tuthill they created the car based on a 1990 Type 964, strengthened its core, upgraded its suspension, brakes, tires, engine, and gearbox to survive punishing off-road events like the Baja 1000 and Dakar Rally.

The Martelli Brothers and Mad Media offer up a different take on off-road racing videos, contrasting the quiet and serene setting of Baja, Mexico with the high horsepower action of trophy trucks, buggies, motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs as they tear across the desert, catching air and throwing dirt everywhere.

Like Odd Tinkering and Rescue & Restore before him, TRG Restoration gave a rusty Tonka truck a new lease on life. But he went one better, and once he cleaned it up and repainted it, he added a 4×4 R/C drivetrain and lifted suspension so it can be driven off-road. The metal body does it no favors in the speed department though.
