Awesome Off-road

While it’s certainly not as capable as Howe & Howe’s personal tank, this highly-modded Arctic Cat Wildcat 4 1000 ATV from Israeli outfit Plasan is actually a military-grade machine. It features a roof-mounted weapon system, B6+ composite armor, and room for 3 occupants.

Taiwanese EV maker XING Mobility is showing off a wicked prototype – a 1341 hp compact sports car capable of handling both on-road and off-road terrain. It’s got a four-wheel drive system with torque vectoring to help it corner like a go kart, and is expected to do 0-to-62 in 1.8s.

We’ve spent some time on the treacherous trails of the Baja 1000, so we know how sketchy things can get. But we did it in a purpose-built Class 10 race car. But there are true madmen who do it in pre-1982 VW Beetles. Meet Eric Solorzano, aka “The King of Class 11.”

Along with its other RAM 1500 brethren, the off-road ready quad cab Rebel is 4″ longer than before, increasing its wheelbase and interior space. Its suspension rides better than ever, and it features a sweet interior with black and red accents, and tire tracks embossed into its seats.

The Jeep Wrangler JL combined visual cues from the CJ line with a ton of modern conveniences and updates including a powered soft top option, a convenient fold-down windshield and a choice of 2.0L turbo I4, 3.6L V6, and 3.0L V6 diesel engines.

An extremely special variant of the already awesome Land Rover Discovery, the SVX has even better ground clearance, approach, departure, and breakover angles, off-road tires, a specially-tuned terrain management system, and a 517 hp supercharged V8 engine.

Offering up to 555 hp, 32″ wheels, 20″ of suspension travel, and 14.5″ of ground clearance, this all-electric open-air 4×4 is ready to be the Tesla of UTVs. It does 0-to-60 in 3.9s, its motor and gearbox are waterproof, and it can go up to 200 miles on a charge.

UTVUnderground and MadMedia let off-roader RJ Anderson go absolutely bonkers in a highly-modified 2017 Polaris RZR XP Turbo EPS UTV, taking on treacherous terrain and manmade ramps, culminating in a sideways ride around the WALL OF DEATH, and an epic backflip.

Off-road race driver BJ Baldwin roars across the streets and jungles of Cuba in his 850 hp Toyota/Toyo Trucks trophy truck on an epic mission that sees him burning rubber, putting his suspension system to the test, and catching insane amounts of air along the way.

Howe & Howe’s Ripsaw EV2 offers incredible speed and agility off-road, while keeping its occupants clean and dry inside its high tech cockpit. It’s got more than 12″ of suspension travel and a 600+hp diesel engine. It also comes in a “pickup” version that carries bikes.

If given the choice between the EM50 Urban Assault Vehicle and the Action Mobil Globecruiser 7500, we’d go with this one. This mobile home has a 532 hp engine, an off-road capable 6×6 drivetrain, plentiful interior space, and even has a motorcycle dock out back.

The Mint 400 is called The Great American Off-Road Race. To make the experience even better, Toyota helped us turn it into an awesome off-road road trip and adventure ending up in Las Vegas. We queued up Fear and Loathing and hit the road for an amazing weekend adventure.

The love child of an NV 2500 HD van and a Titan XD truck, this off-road beast has a Cummins 5.0L V8 turbodiesel engine, 4WD, 37-inch General Grabber X3 tires, a high-travel front suspension, a 10,000lb winch, LED off-road lights, and still carries 234 cu. ft. of cargo.

The new performance variant of Chevy’s mid-size pickup gains 2″ of suspension lift, steel rocker protectors, Multimatic shocks, 17×8 wheels with 31-inch off-road tires, and front and rear locking diffs. Comes with either a 308 hp V6, or a 181 hp diesel with 369 lb-ft. of torque.

About the last vehicle we’d think of taking off road is a minivan, but that didn’t stop these guys from taking a late ’80s four-wheel drive Toyota TownAce van out on the treacherous Hells Revenge 4×4 trail in Moab, Utah – and they did it with remarkable success.

One of the many tricked out vehicles slated headed to the 2016 SEMA show, this special off-road SUV has been blessed with a nitrous-boosted 3.3L V6, and a jacked-up suspension with massive wheel articulation and ground clearance, 35″ tires and 17″ beadlock wheels.

Drivers Justin Oquendo, Ryan Kibbe, and Ken Block take on Chris Forsberg, Dustin Jones, and Ballistic BJ Baldwin, kicking up dirt for days in the widebody Can-AM Maverick X3 ATV, with its crazy 24″ of suspension travel, 15″ of ground clearance, and speedy 154hp turbo 4 engine.

We reconnected with pro racer Ryan Millen to take a ride inside his Toyota Rally RAV4. Incredibly, it’s mostly stock other than the tires, shocks, exhaust, and rollcage. We still can’t believe this front-wheel drive SUV with an automatic can go around a dirt track like this.

Currently available in Europe as the G500 4×4², this beastly off-roader is heading to the US in 2017. The $200K+ SUV has 17.2″ of ground clearance, 39″ fording depth, articulating axles,a 416 hp biturbo V8, and the sort of luxury interior we’d expect from Mercedes.
