(NSFW) You know how we’re supposed to use the Internet to advance humanity, but half of the time we’re just using it to stock up on gifs and upload selfies? Apply that to time travel and you get Timeholes. Great freakin’ Scott. Just great.

In 1999, after his son committed suicide, Steve Fugate left his successful businesses and started walking across the United States. He’s doing it to remind other people and himself not to lose hope. Steve has walked over 34,000mi and counting.

If Bruce Wayne lived in the same universe as Skynet, you know he’d outlast us all. Obviously he’d try to take on the evil A.I. as well. That’s exactly the premise of this concept animated short film by Mitchell Hammond.

Smooth surfaces. Perfect shapes. Palette swaps. Movable light source. Exploded objects. Green screens. Glitches. Copy. Paste. Edit. Synthesized. Created. Alan Warburton’s Spherical Harmonics is a surreal exhibition of the nature of CGI.

(NSFW: Language) The cool kids in school, all grown up. Though Jason Headley’s short is too blunt and ends up creating stereotypes even as it tries to demolish them, it’s still worth checking out. Then go see the funnier version.

Mark Cersosimo’s latest thoughtful piece, The Roving Typist, introduces us to C.D. Hermelin, an engaging New York-based writer who creates one-of-a-kind stories for passersby with a few dollars to spare on his typewriter in the park.

Featuring stunning locales and cinematography, and backed by Johnny Cash’s soul-stirring Ain’t No Grave, if this short film by Garchois Films doesn’t inspire you to get out and explore the world, we don’t know what will.

A normal day in the life of Louis XIV and his nobles in 17th century France. Except they’re  chickens. A la Française (“in the style of the French”) is a hilarious animated short made by former Supinfocom students.

(NSFW) A voyeur stumbles upon pictures of his daughter on his favorite site. SLR is presented as a thriller, but more than that it’s a chilling yet realistic portrait of human behavior. Starring Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones).

(Gore) This short film by animators Ruud Coenen, Luc Thijssen, Frank van Vugt and Stein Louisse tells the tale of three people as they vie for a mysterious box. We love the edgy, cel-shaded look, though it leaves us wanting even more.

Shot in a single take with no edits, this promo spot by Us for the UK’s The Sunday Times takes us seamlessly between iconic figures ranging from Rodin’s The Thinker to Forrest Gump to Daft Punk. Go behind the scenes here.

(NSFW: Language) These are the final thoughts of statistician John Wilkins. He seems remarkably calm for a man with 3 minutes and 48 seconds left to live. But his composure stems not from a lucid brain but from a dead heart.

(NSFW: Language) Filmmaker Stuart Neaverson used Grand Theft Auto V to make this short silent film about a routine robbery gone wrong. You should’ve listened to the man, miss. Plus the bags were empty.

It may only be 10 seconds-long, but Wayne Unten’s animated short film of a grasshopper transporting an unexpected passenger could be the best thing you watch today. We can imagine an entire Disney flick based on this theme.

The dream of the 90s is alive in Volans. Talented digital artist Murat Sayginer made this psychedelic short film. It reminds us of the videos used to demonstrate graphics cards back in the day. It’s kitsch in HD, and it works.

TWD is coming back soon enough, but meanwhile let’s cherish the genre and enjoy David Freyne’s creepy short film about a mysterious outbreak, a woman in a hospital and the terrifying bedlam that led her there. (Thanks Badu!)

(NSFW, Gross) Daniel is about to get lucky on his first date when he suddenly feels the need to poop. Things go down the toilet from that point. Abandon all hope, you who watch this. Based on a true story by director Steven DeGennaro.

(PG-13: Language) Andre Hyland’s short film tells the tale of a man and his quest for a funnel for his broken down car, as his entire monologue plays out via his cell phone. Made the Official Selection list for the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

(NSFW: Language) Todd Strauss-Schulson’s short film stars a character who becomes maladjusted and utterly lost in the face of heartbreak. In other words, we know that feel bro. How we wish we all had a guardian angel like he did.
