This desktop device aims to democratize the creation of vinyl records. The Phonocut is designed to carve grooves directly into a 10″ wax disk, allowing for the creation of custom records at home. It’s makers are hoping for a 2020 release and will start raising funds on Kickstarter 10/15/19 at 4:20pm LA time.

Designer Xundi Li’s concept for a record player is a beautiful work of modern industrial design. It combines a turntable, speaker, and amplifier, with an off-center drive mechanism which lets the record protrude from its cabinet. We hope it goes into production.

To celebrate the 67th anniversary of the first LP sold in Japan, Panasonic gathered 30 of the world’s best DJs to perform composer Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, which was in the first commercial LP record ever sold.
