Director Taehoon Park’s abstract sci-fi short film is a visually stunning animation about a corporation who develops a technology which sends dying people on a wild journey through their dreams and memories during their last rest before The Big Sleep.

Strangers

Strangers

Vallée Duhamel’s surreal short film uses a mix of visual techniques to place multiple characters in the same space, yet living on different planes of existence, such that none of them is aware of the others. Inspired by the Oscar-winning short Tango by Zbigniew Rybszynski.

Going Fishing

Going Fishing

It took Guldies nearly 5000 individual photos (though they used just about half of those) to put together this wonderful stop-motion short film in which a giant human hand hand prepares for a peaceful day of fishing by his cabin.

Elvis & Dimmi

Elvis & Dimmi

(PG-13, Gore/Language) Elvis and Dimmi are not your typical adventurers. Or maybe they are, depending on how you play video games. Ivan Dixon and pixel art master Paul Robertson present this gaming-inspired short film about two jerks and their goblin lackey.

Kort Maar Krachtig

Kort Maar Krachtig

The title of KLOMP! Animation’s short film translates to “Short but Sweet” in English, and that it is. The 2-minute clip does a great job parodying some of the many clichés in fantasy movies, and saving the princess in record time. Be sure to watch with captions on.

Down to Earth

Down to Earth

Artist and experimental filmmaker Anna Vasof decided that shoes should serve more purpose than to just cover our feet, and added some new functionality to a variety of footwear in her strange but entertaining short film. The card-shuffler shoes are our favorite.

THE MA(D)CHINES

THE MA(D)CHINES

Motion design director Tony Zagoraios and YELL present a brief, but awesome animated short in which ordinary household appliances come to life in ways you never imagined. We so want a hot rod that toasts giant slices of bread as it speeds down the road.

NOVAE

NOVAE

As a tribute to Stanley Kubrick and Christopher Nolan, designer Thomas Vanz made a beautiful short film visualizing the death of a star. None of the visuals are computer generated; instead he edited together clips of ink dissolving in water to depict a supernova.

The Collection

The Collection

Adam Roffman’s award-winning short documentary introduces us to Marilyn Wagner and DJ Ginsberg, two friends who stumbled onto a cache of unique and wonderful motion picture memorabilia for $2000 back in 1999, now valued between $8 and $12 million.

Dunkirk: The Silent Film

Dunkirk: The Silent Film

(SPOILERS) Dunkirk is already an exercise in minimalism. But Like Stories of Old wanted to push the boundaries and see if it could work as a traditional and short silent film. The soundtrack and speed are jarring at first, but the result does feel like a complete film.

Beatrice

Beatrice

“Before I lunge, I take a deep breath. And with that breath, everything becomes lighter.” Beatrice is a short documentary about Beatrice Vio, a champion wheelchair fencer. She lost all four limbs when she was 11, but that didn’t stop her from pursuing her passion.

SENTiNEL

SENTiNEL

Filmmaker Ryan Connolly wrote, directed, and edited this impressive short sci-fi film in which a man finds himself under siege by some kind of military drone. While it wasn’t done with a big budget, it looks and sounds fantastic, and will have you on the edge of your seat.

2017

2017

(PG-13: Language) A man emerges from the sea to find out that he missed an entire year of his life in this timely, cynical, and politically-incorrect short film from UK comedy duo Tom and Hubert. Apparently, the same thing happened to Tom in 2016.

Dear Satan

Dear Satan

The Floor Is Lava

The Floor Is Lava

7TH AEON

7TH AEON

A phenomenal cyberpunk animated short by Mads Broni and Salla Lehmus that envisions a dystopian future in which humans have become so obsessed with technology they become increasingly isolated, anti-social, and cease to evolve. Doesn’t seem that far-fetched to us.

ZVP

ZVP

Writer and director Junya Okobe presents an awesome take on the tale of Zatōichi, a mythical blind swordsman who takes down an army of evil foes. Hornet’s Nest & Runt Man reminded us of Master Blaster from The Road Warrior, but it’s the ending that truly kicked ass.
