Artist Rayclay used a combination of 3D modeling software, 3D printing, and hand-finishing to create miniature models of a freediver and a manta ray. He then precisely painted the pieces and submerged them in transparent resin to create the illusion they were swimming beneath the ocean’s surface.

Artist Michael Murphy of Perceptual Art designed this mind-blowing sculpture that looks like Michael Jordan’s iconic Jumpman logo when viewed from the front, and a Nike Air Jordan 1 sneaker from the side. A very limited number of the handpainted resin sculptures goes on sale 8.6.20 at 12pm ET at the Perceptual Store.

When you’re working on construction projects, you could always use an extra hand. Developed by Createk, Université De Sherbrooke, and Exonetik this waist-mounted robot can do things like use a paint roller, squeegee, a gripper hand, or even a metal fist to break through walls. It’s all a bit silly looking if you ask us.

One thing we love about Adam Savage is how he shares work from others, and not just his own creations. Here, he shows off a charming dragon puppet he commissioned from artist Katherine Winslade. Despite being assembled from simple foam, plastic, and paints, it has a tremendous amount of personality and expressiveness.

Stuck home with some time on his hands, Jason Hibbs of Bourbon Moth Woodworking figured his lawnmower could use an upgrade. So he got to building a wooden frame and boxed in the ride-on machine with plywood, then painted it all to look like a tank. It can even fire potatoes from its gun while it cuts the grass.

Model railroad builder Luke Towan shows off one of the coolest miniatures we’ve seen – a 32″ tall HO-scale model of an art deco apartment building. The 450+ piece laser-cut acrylic Majestic Towers kit is made by Custom Model Railroads. Luke’s painting, added 3D-printed details, and interior lighting really bring it to life.

Off-road experts Legacy Overland started with a German Army 1990 Mercedes-Benz G250D, restoring it with a full mechanical rebuild, and modernizing it with Bilstein shocks, a military-style snorkel, LED lighting, a custom leather interior, air conditioning, and more. The custom Boxwood Green paint brings it all together.

After digging up a rusty old nail from his yard, maker Bobby Duke transformed the nasty looking old piece of scrap metal into a beautiful miniature sword that’s fit for a tiny warrior. Along the way, he made a custom forge from a paint can, some concrete, and blow torches.

Since the sad demise of ThinkGeek, Icon Heroes‘ Picard facepalm bust has been off the market. Just in time for the madness of 2020, the 8″ tall sculpture is back, now with a painted Starfleet logo on its base. You can pre-order one from Entertainment Earth, with deliveries expected by 8.2020. Adafruit Industries shares a relatively simple, yet very cool project – a wand which displays a persistence of vision illusion when waved in the air. Naturally, the build uses parts from Adafruit, including DotStar LEDs, and a Feather controller board. Check out the tutorial, files, and code here.

Prove you’re the ultimate dinosaur hunter with this hand-painted polyresin T.Rex head. While it’s not anywhere near life-size at 14.5″ high, it’s still an awesome conversation piece for any wall. The only thing missing are some tiny arms sticking out beneath it.

Erik Jensen creates art using a non-traditional medium. Instead of paints, pencils, or ink, he creates original works and replicas of famous paintings using computer keys. He dyes the the keys with various colors then painstakingly arranges them into pixel grids. Erik sells originals and prints on his website.

This skinny, cordless light is designed to attach underneath a vehicle’s hood, providing bright and even illumination while you work. It has 202 LED lamps which output up to 1200 lumens. Artist Andrew DeGraff’s cinematic atlas is filled with intricate isometric maps which guide us through the locations in popular movies. The hardcover book features 11″ x 14″ reproductions of his hand-painted maps from 35 movies including King Kong, Fargo, The Princess Bride, The Shining, and many more.

(PG-13: Language) Filmmaker Ben Berman’s meta-documentary was made entirely under self-quarantine. He used the service Cameo to pay actors and other celebrities, along with news footage and search engine queries to paint a picture of the anxiety being fueled by social media and other rumor mills.

Model maker Roman Khramov of Minibricks shares a wonderfully soothing video in which he meticulously crafts a realistic diorama, complete with tiny tress, plants, tourists, and a model of a medieval castle as its centerpiece. He 3D-printed the main structure, but did all of the detailing and painting by hand.

Seth Everman’s hilarious take on video game music and sound tropes gets a fresh coat of paint, courtesy of animator Sherbies, who added some appropriate game imagery to the original soundtrack. So when can we play Legend of Selma, Bintendo folks?

From the “don’t try this at home” file, Brad Russell shows off what happens when a 2000-volt transformer from a microwave oven is applied to wood painted with sodium bicarbonate. The result is beautiful, tree-like patterns known as Lichtenberg figures.
