Awesome Software
Dawn of War II: Tyranids
The Tyranids have been conspicuously absent from previous the Dawn of War games, so we’re happy to see them chomping away at the Emperor’s Space Marines in the video above.
Free: Armada Tanks
By all accounts Armada Tanks isn’t anything special, but we found this simple shoot ’em up surprisingly addictive: drive a tank around, collect upgrades and blow the crap out of enemies.
Trailer: Soldner-X
Warning: the trailer above is LOUD. Somewhat like R-Type on steroids, Soldner-X is a 1080p side scrolling shooter by EastAsiaSoft. Available for the PC, a PS3 version is coming soon.
Video: Swype
Cliff Kushler, who brought you the famous T9 text entry system, is now working on Swype. It’s an amazingly fast and intuitive way to type; the video above will knock your socks off.
Trailer: Plain Sight
Coming 1Q 2009, Plain Sight starts innocently enough with a cute robot gallivanting around a Tron-esque cityscape. That is, until he takes out a sword and starts kicking robot ass.
Apple iTunes 8
iTunes 8: Magnetosphere
Kevin Rose confirms it: iTunes 8.0 will indeed by including Flight 404’s gorgeous Magnetosphere visualizer plugin. If you haven’t seen it before, you owe it to yourself to click above.
Video: Killzone 2 Multiplayer
We have mixed feelings for the chatty Killzone 2 video above; it’s trying to sell the multiplayer aspects of the game, but the absence of foul-mouthed 14 year olds is deafening.
Gravitron 2
Filled with gorgeous retro-style graphics, Gravitron 2 is a literal blast from the past. Kind of like asteroids with gravity, it’s available for a five-spot; you can try out the demo here.
Far Cry 2: Immersion
Clint Hawking, Far Cry 2 Creative Director, talks shop (above) about immersion. We like the idea: little details like getting into and out of vehicles help to boost realism.
Trailer: Empire Total War
We feature a lot of first person shooters and RPGs here, but still enjoy a good strategy game. Empire: Total War is an RTS/turn-based hybrid, with glorious ship battles.
Trailer: Battlefield: Heroes
If Joseph Heller’s Catch-22 were ever made into a game, it’d probably resemble Battlefield: Heroes. Banjoes, kilts aplenty, and mimes on fire, all for free later this year: oohh yeah.
Resistance 2: Collector’s Ed.
Talk about sealing the deal: Resistance 2 is getting a Collector’s Edition which includes an awesome 5.5″ DC Universe Chimera Hybrid figure, art book and bonus DVD.
Google Chrome Browser
Just launched: Google’s brand-new browser, Google Chrome. It aims to minimize memory bloat (you can selectively shut down tasks) and is lightweight, with a 500KB install file.
Dark Void Gameplay Video
Airtight Games’ Dark Void isn’t just another first person shooter; the main character is equipped with a jetpack, introducing elements such as vertical cover (see the video above).
Armored Core: For Answer
Fallout 3 Gameplay Video
Trailer: Infinite Undiscovery
We’ve already seen quite a few of its TV ads lately, but this trailer for the upcoming Infinite Undiscovery has us drooling at the CGI-level gameplay animations. It’s coming 9/2.
Trailer: Machinarium
A mix of Monty Python and steampunk, Machinarium is a 2D adventure game by indie developers Amanita Design. The trailer above is gorgeous; look for it in the first half of 2009.
Death Tank
Scorched Earth and Worms fans will love this trailer for Snowblind Studios’ upcoming XBLA game, Death Tank. It features amped up graphics and 8-player multiplayer (up to 4 locally).
Trailer: Spore Civilization
This latest trailer for the upcoming Spore provides some insights into its Civilization mode. Players get to choose an economic, religious or warlike stance; the latter gets WOMDs.
Trailer: Mad World
Mad World has a bloody comic book style that reminds us of Frank Miller’s Sin City; what amazes us is that this gritty game is for the Wii, created by Japanese devs for a U.S. audience.
