Awesome Glow In The Dark

Nate from The King of Random shows us how to make a soupy, goopy concoction using Borax detergent and Elmer’s clear glue that can glow brilliantly in the dark when combined with the stuff from inside of glow sticks. If you’re gonna try this, wear gloves and eye protection!

Vollebak’s Black Light is a collection of athletic wear that appears all black in daylight. But you’ll still be seen in them in the dark, because they have black glass spheres that easily reflect light. There’s a t-shirt, long sleeved shirt, sweater and jacket.

NEWwooDESIGN creates these unique tables by engraving detailed maps of cities into oak wood. Each table has three layers representing streets, buildings, and water, and is coated with a resin that glows in the dark. Choose from several European cities, as well as NYC.

Engineers from MIT have developed a fascinating way to enhance plant leaves so they can subtly glow in complete darkness for up to four hours. Their aim is to someday create plants which are bright enough to illuminate an entire workspace.

Vollebak’s waterproof jacket glows in the dark for up to 12h with as little as 2h of exposure to sunlight and other sources of light. Unlike most treatments, the jacket’s glow-in-the-dark compound won’t wear off. It’s also stretchable, packable and weighs just over 8oz.

Beyond the Brick’s Joshua Hanlon met up with builder Carter Baldwin at Philly Brick Fest to check out the section dedicated to glow-in-the-dark creations. Seeing these constructions under black light gives a whole new dimension to LEGO that we never knew existed.

Artist Peter Draws creates a wonderful line art illustration using “invisible” ink under a black light. Watching the ink flow off of his glass pen tip into the water is just as mesmerizing as onto the canvas itself. His charming and soothing narration definitely reminds us of Bob Ross.

The Science Channel’s series Street Science presents a neat experiment, mixing bulk quantities of the nasty goo inside of glowsticks to produce a variety of vibrant colors. The result is a new abstract painting medium. Needless to say, don’t play with these chemicals at home.

Innovo Design creates jewelry and other accessories packing tiny vials of radioactive tritium gas, which makes them glow in low light or darkness without need to be “charged” in daylight. They offer rings, pendants, USB drives, bottle openers, and even a tritium “flashlight.”

Nissan commissioned artist Ian Cook to create a massive 2200 sq. ft. piece of art, which combined the artist’s brushstrokes and splatters with the tread marks of a Nissan LEAF, creating a glowing self-portrait of the compact EV.

In an attempt to make its homely LEAF electric car a bit more interesting, Nissan Europe gave one a factory glow-in-the-dark paintjob – which we think would look even better on a Lambo. Sadly, there are no plans to put it into production.

Brooklyn’s Bottleneck Art Gallery is showcasing awesome glow in the dark prints from various artists with its When The Lights Go Out 2 art show. The pieces are based on popular movies, TV shows and video games.

Hot Wheels wrapped a Camaro in reflective and glow-in-the-dark vinyl, fulfilling both boyhood and adult car fantasies at the same time. They really should mount some black lights on it for maximum effect.
