Designed by formAxiom, this folding stainless steel grill has a unique cooking surface that resembles a sunflower, and a soft, mesh basket that holds its fire source. It’s still in the prototype phase, as they ensure it can be safely operated.
Peter Baeten’s portable chess set concept consists of flat pieces that slot onto the board. The pieces are laser cut and hand varnished and are stored in their own cutouts. A leather cover doubles as a play mat.
The best of the new Golfs might not even make it to showrooms. The R 400 concept has a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 395hp and 332lb.ft. of torque. It goes from 0 to 62mph in 3.9s and has a top speed of 174mph.
Currently in development at Quirky, Kevin Shay’s Swingling (aka the “UpSwing”) is a portable swing. It comes with a sturdy cable, a canvas seat and a carabiner and can be set up in under a minute. It rolls up neatly when not in use.

Looking like it jumped out of an anime, the Civic Type R Concept has a 276hp 2L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, a massive rear spoiler, wide front and rear fenders and 20″ wheels. A production version is expected in 2015.

Designed by Dennis Siegel, the RFID Bikealarm deters theft by emitting an ear-shattering 120dB alarm if it senses drastic movement. The owner uses a small RFID tag to wirelessly activate and deactivate the alarm.
