We’ve seen some unusual shoes thanks largely to the art collective MSCHF. But artist Canyaon has them beat in terms of variety and creativity. His Instagram page is packed with wild and impractical shoe designs, including ride-on off-road sneakers, steel welder’s boots, BBQ shoes that hold hot dogs and spatulas, and cocktail-dispensing winter boots.

Mischief-making art collective MSCHF created a wild pair of Timberland-style work boots that will sell out quickly. The 2×4 Boots extend their chunky gum rubber soles onto their sides and tops like they were squeezed through an extruder. We love finding new gear for our daily adventures. Process X takes us inside the Ishii Sports shoe factory to see how artisans create boots by hand. Each shoe starts by cutting shapes out of leather, refining its edges, then gluing and stitching the pieces together, adding lace rivets, and nailing it around a wooden form before sewing on its insole and attaching the layers of its sole.

Process X takes us inside a Japanese factory that’s been making rubber boots for almost 90 years. They start with lumpy, raw rubber, then roll, stamp, form, and assemble pieces to create the body and soles. Then vulcanization applies heat and pressure to make the boots flexible and durable before finishing.

Insider visited Dr. Martens’ only shoe factory in the UK to give us a peek at how the company makes its famously tough-as-nails shoes and boots. The factory employs 50 people, who make about 100,000 pairs every year.

Nike ACG’s upcoming sneaker boot combines modern tech with ’90s color. It has a Flyknit collar for comfort, a speed-lacing system for ease of use, as well as a debris guard on the midsole and an outsole designed to improve traction on various terrain.

Maharishi’s take on the jika-tabi, which are traditional Japanese boots that have a split toe. They hug the feet and provide a barefoot feel. The Maha Tabi has adjustable hook fasteners and come with a Jason Markk cleaning kit. Available in white or black.

Ecco’s upcoming Exostrike sneaker boots are made from a combination of Dyneema fiber and leather. The result is an upper that’s thin, soft, and smooth yet is five times more resistant to tearing than normal leather. The shoe drops 4/11/18.

Duke & Dexter’s new boots add a twist to the classic silhouette by adding camouflage patterns on the elastic side panels. The boots are handmade in England using Northampton suede. Available in two colors, and another one with plain white side panels.
