Awesome Thread

Breakfast created this incredible work of kinetic art that uses spools of thread to display images. It has 6400 individual spools, each of which can rotate between 36 different colors to display a single pixel. The trick is that the spools actually are loaded with a long multi-color belt, rather than individual threads.

Artist DP Truong creates works in a variety of medium, from paints to pens to pencils, but one of his most intriguing approaches to art is portraiture made from thread. Watch as she transforms 44 white threads into a portrait reminiscent of the waveforms on the cover of the Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures.

Stone Island’s Heat Reactive Jacket is now offered in green; the cotton nylon canvas fabric is coated with thermosensitive liquid crystals that change the garment’s color depending on the temperature.
