Awesome Coffins

Bob “Rocketman” Maddox is obsessed with building dangerous jet-powered karts and racing them across the desert. To get into the holiday spirit, he built a coffin-shaped pulsejet car he dubbed the Halloween Machine. It doesn’t look quite as slick as The Munsters’ coffin car, Dragula, but Bob’s is much, much faster.

While you can’t park it your driveway in time for Halloween, you could still own this awesome bit of pop culture history – the coffin-shaped car that Grandpa raced in an episode of The Munsters. Barris Kustoms built five of these cars in the 1960s to promote the horror-sitcom, and it’s headed to Mecum’s 2022 Kissimmee car auction.

During his recent visit to the West African nation of Ghana, Conan O’Brien visited an artist’s studio where they handcraft unique “fantasy” coffins, which are part of the nation’s way of celebrating its dead. Naturally, he went with something near and dear to his heart.
