Awesome Space Invaders

TAITO celebrates 40 years of its 8-bit arcade shooter. The board game asks players to use cards to target an army of aliens headed for their bases. Available in a standard or deluxe edition, or with an awesome limited edition diorama signed by Invaders’ creator Tomohiro Nishikado.

Developer Kingpenguin created this insane retro-style game which manages to seamlessly incorporate elements of Pac-Man, Pong, and Space Invaders all on the same playfield. Available for Windows, Mac or Linux.

While it actually plays the GBA SP version of the game, we’re still impressed with the workmanship of Vcoleiro1’s mini Space Invaders cabinet. Looks like he’s working on an entire mini arcade.

Fans of the classic Space Invaders will dig this Japanese import, which converts your iPad or iPad2 into a mini Space Invaders cabinet. Has built in charging dock and speakers. A bit pricey though.

im8bit put together two of our favorite things to create his tee for Threadless: Space Invaders and Angry Birds. It’s currently being scored so it hasn’t gone to print yet, but it might be fun if it does.

There’s something not quite right with this scene, as the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs (yeah we know that’s a unit of length) takes on a slightly Imperial-looking space invasion.
