Awesome Futurama

For the most part, Futurama takes place in a colorful and capitalistic 31st century. But how would the series have turned out if it were filmed in the aesthetic of David Lynch’s Dune or another similarly styled film? Through the power of AI image generation tech, Tenzin Tensor envisions just that. Hypnotoad is still highly effective.

R3DUX Studios and xystvyry Productions carefully selected footage from The Simpsons and Futurama that perfectly illustrate the lyrics from Pink Floyd’s Brain Damage, a song that befits Homer Simpson more than any other character. They’ve created animated music videos for Time and High Hopes too.

As we’ve learned before, everything is a remix. In this particular case, digital artist Hayati Evren remixed pieces of classical works and transformed them into a popular meme. The finished image will be part of the Evren’s “Clash of Time” NFT collection on OpenSea.

Fans of Futurama surely recall the billboard for Bachelor Chow that appears in the opening credits. The dehydrated food chunks turned up in a few episodes too. Binging with Babish decided it was finally time to make a far more edible version of the human equivalent of dog food.

Good news everyone! There’s a sweet light-up replica of the Planet Express spaceship from Futurama. Quantum Mechanix’s collectible measures about 12″x 4″ x 4″ and has lights on its cockpit, portholes and exhaust. It also has magnets that make it easy to mount it on its stand.

Engineer BrunS takes a momentary break from making epic metal rocketships to build something different – a miniature version of Bender Bending Rodgriguez from Futurama. We don’t care that Nemi Makeit’s ugly Christmas sweater design isn’t a sweater at all, as it features the best possible version of Santa; one who prefers that you leave out a pile of hot Chinatown garbage instead of a plate of milk and cookies when he visits.

Cartoonist Matt Groening gave us the present with The Simpsons, then he entertained us in a futuristic setting with Futurama. So for his upcoming Netflix show Disenchantment, it’s only fitting that he goes to the past. The show premieres 8/17/18.

You’ve come a long way to the 31st Century, baby. SquidPhysics put together this fun mashup of Fatboy Slim’s 1998 hit Praise You and the chime-heavy theme song from Futurama. They meld together so seamlessly, they might as well have been the same song.

Video essayist Kaptain Kristian takes a look at one of our favorite animated shows ever, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen and their writers infused the show with geek culture, intricate plots, one of the best comedic ensembles ever, and a balance of cynicism and hopefulness.

Futurama is one of our all-time favorite TV shows. It deftly combined humor, science fiction, animation, pop culture, and an awesome ensemble cast. While we’ll have to live with reruns, we can at least enjoy this awesome one-man cover of its theme song by SquidPhysics.
