Fire season is back, making this based-on-a-true-story movie especially terrifying. Directed by Academy Award-nominee Paul Greengrass, The Lost Bus is a hellish ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires as a school bus driver drives headfirst into danger to rescue 22 children from the Paradise, California inferno. In theaters 9.19.25 and on Apple TV+ 10.3.25.

It starts out as beautifully as most time-lapse nature footage does, but a couple of minutes in to Matt Johnson’s imagery of majestic Colorado, the fury of forest fires engulfs part of his frame. It’s at once both mesmerizing and haunting.
