Inventables updates its versatile, yet economical CNC carving machine to be more reliable and precise than ever before, ensuring that makers can use them not just for prototyping, but production work too. It comes in three sizes for a variety of needs.

Maker Benjamin Uyeda used Inventables’ X-Carve 3D carving machine to cut hundreds of layers of wood, which he laminated together to make an impressive spiral staircase. The whole thing was made from 13 sheets of Purebond plywood. Full build video here.

The world’s first handheld CNC machine uses adhesive markers to scan and keep track of your material. The cutting tool automatically retracts if you stray from the template or your work surface, and you can even save and resume your progress. Demo here.

Check out this footage of the DMG MORI Lasertec 65 3D, an amazing marvel of modern engineering which is capable of first building up rough metal forms using laser deposition welding, then switching heads to precisely mill and drill them into finished parts.

Makerarm is a robotic arm with a variety of tool heads that allow it to 3D print (both filament and resin) write, draw, cut, carve, pick & place and more. You can also teach it new actions, control it over Wi-Fi and make multiple units work together.

While we’re not sure of the practical uses for a metal bike helmet, we’re still mesmerized by this Mazak Variaxis 5-axis milling machine as it replicates a Rudy Project Windmax helmet from a block of aluminum using PowerMILL software.

Using Scantech’s SL 3D scanner and a 5-axis Breton CNC machine, they were able to precisely recreate a damaged stone gargoyle from Denmark’s Kronborg Castle. Imagine the work it would have taken to do the job by hand.
