This is the way… to make a LEGO Star Wars animation. Forrest Whaley created this action-packed short film featuring Din Djarin as he puts his helmet back on to pursue a valuable bounty. Rather than just featuring characters from a galaxy far, far away, it takes place in a world populated by all kinds of LEGO minifigs.

Stop-motion animator LEGOEddy ran one of his 15 fps animations through a tool called DAIN, which converted his original video to a buttery-smooth 60 fps. The software not only interpolates frames but is able to properly handle depth-of-field and occlusion (objects hidden behind others.) Learn more on Two Minute Papers.

Time for Machine makes amazing metal and wood models of vehicles. Among them is a tiny tank called the “Marvel.” TOMs Modeling in Motion assembled one of these mini mechanical marvels and captured the build as a time-lapse, stop-motion video. We also enjoyed watching him put together a metal Hindenburg from AEROBASE.

Animator Kevin Parry spent an absurd amount of time baking in the kitchen to put together this mouth-watering stop-motion clip. It features a hypnotic sequence of colorful cakes gradually being cut away, slice-by-slice. Now we really are in the mood for dessert. Thanks, Kevin.

(PG-13: Lyrics) In between his professional projects, animator Lawrence Becker of Samplertimes created a series of awesome stop-motion animations of Spider-Man turning in some precisely-choreographed dance moves. The behind-the-scenes clips are worth a watch too.

Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs is loaded with wonderfully-inventive stop-motion animation. Among the many scenes is one where a pair of hands artfully create a meal of sushi. Now, go inside that scene, created by Andy Biddle and Tony Farquhar-Smith over the course of 32 days.

Counter656’s latest toy figure animation features a brief, but satisfying battle to the death between Arnold’s T-800 and an army of gun-toting plastic foes, not the least of which is Danny Trejo as Machete. We so need to have that action figure now.

An up-close look at a rig built for the stop-motion film Two Balloons. The animators used an intricate network of strings and push rods to move dozens of shiny plastic layers to create the undulating waves of an ocean. The trailer for the film looks amazing.

The latest stop-motion animation from counter656 features an epic battle between Dragon Ball Z’s pumped-up SHF Broly against a Super Saiyan Goku and some robots from Gundam. None of them stand a chance against his massive muscles and spiky yellow hair.

Corridor Digital is back at it again, this time creating a fun top-down action flick that has two suitors duking it out over the object of their affection in a fight that reminds us of the old video game Karateka. BTS footage here.

Woodworker Frank Howarth shot nearly 6,000 stills, then assembled this stop-motion animation to create the illusion that his table saw and its accessories have lives of their own, and require no human intervention to operate.

Corridor Digital freely admits they’ve got no parkour skills, but that didn’t stop them from making a parkour action video. Though they did cheat a bit – shooting the entire thing lying on the ground. It’s like that Who’s Line Is It Anyway bit.

Frank Howarth loves to share videos of himself building wooden items, but this one is truly special. He chronicled how he built three bookcases using nearly 6,400 photos, making it seem like his woodshop had a life of its own.

French Mario and Luigi can play Mario Kart without a video game console. Or karts. Olivier Bolduc and Simon Lachapelle made this smooth live action stop-motion short based on Nintendo’s racing game.

You’ll have to blow on the cartridge to start the game, but these pixel-perfect stop-motion animations of the first few levels of Donkey Kong by GuizDP are well worth the wait. The whole thing was made from melted Perler beads.

Animator John Huang whips out his action figure collection again, putting on a literally hair-raising battle between the Z Fighters, when supervillain Cell shows up. The animation was created from about 6,000 individual images.
