The idea that an object or a human can spontaneously catch fire or explode seems unlikely. Engineer Xyla Foxlin explores the science behind freak fires that seem to come out of nowhere and explains what makes these fiery phenomena possible. While there are stories of people self-igniting, it seems there’s a rational explanation for each of these fires.

Like last year, maker Xyla Foxlin and Joe from BPS.Space wanted to celebrate the holidays with a rocket-powered Christmas tree. But this year’s launch didn’t quite go according to plan, and the flaming yule tree literally went sideways and turned into a missile that could have easily taken out Santa and his sleigh of reindeer.

Maker Xyla Foxlin admits that her design for a bulletproof party dress is completely impractical. But that doesn’t make it any less impressive. She created this wild-looking outfit by creating a custom dress form from duct tape and foam, then sculpted the dress from sheets of Kevlar and carbon fiber cloth.

While taking a road trip across America, maker Xyla Foxlin was inspired to collect a piece of wood that was grown and milled in each state she visited. While she didn’t manage to drive through every state, her fans helped her out so she could complete this beautiful and unique piece of wall art.
