Awesome Watchmen

(PG-13: Language) “People who wear masks are dangerous. We should be scared of them… ‘Cause they’re hiding something.” Masked vigilantes take down criminals, but are treated as outlaws themselves in HBO and Damon Lindelof’s adaptation of the comic book by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, John Higgins. Premieres 10/2019.

With Game of Thrones ending its run very soon, HBO is looking for the next big thing for weekly viewing. One of their big bets: a reboot of Watchmen as a TV series. With Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) at the helm, it could go either way, but we’re intrigued at this point.

Wisecrack illustrates the difference between satire and parody using Watchmen for the former and One Punch Man for the latter. Both subvert and criticize, but satire seeks to invalidate its subject while parody ultimately seeks to improve it.

(PG-13) “Soon the Watchmen start getting watched too hard, prompting the emo one to start a Livejournal.” Wisecrack’s alien film critic provides a lighthearted summary of Watchmen and Ozymandias, Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan’s brands of morality.

Screen Junkies takes on yet another comic book classic that Zack Snyder ruined. Watchmen may well be unadaptable, but if we’re going to do it anyway it should have been a miniseries. And not directed by Zack Snyder.

While Zack Snyder’s big screen version wasn’t exactly the recipient of fan or critical praise, Kaptain Kristian reminds us just how difficult it was to transform Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ classic comic, which took advantage of the medium in ways a film could never do.

(NSFW: Language) Rodrigo Huerta aka El-Cid and Hans Van Harken made this hilarious and polished mashup of Spongebob Squarepants and the Watchmen movie. Patrick Star as The Comedian is freakin’ genius.

The Fine Brothers continue to entertain us with their weekly Lost parodies. This one has a few special guests you might recognize, and we also appreciate Jack channeling Shaggy in this episode.

One of the best head sculpts we’ve ever seen, Hot Toys’ 1:6 scale, 12″ The Comedian does justice to our favorite Watchmen character with five weapons, a cigar, and full body harness.

We tried our best to ignore it, but Dr. Manhattan’s Pants brings the glowing blue dude’s conspicuous lack of apparel front and center; best line: “Put Ozymandias’ pants back on now!”

For those of you suffering from post-Watchmen trauma, this Saturday morning-styled Watchmen cartoon is so bright and cheesy it’s almost foul; in short, the perfect hangover cure.

Hype for the upcoming Watchmen film is hitting a fever pitch, but we couldn’t resist sharing this tongue-in-cheek t-shirt by Rocky Davies; it’s screenprinted on an American Apparel tee.

While the previous trailer was more artsy, this theatrical Watchmen trailer establishes the storyline and is narrated by Rorschach, with help from Silk Spectre and Doctor Manhattan.
