Not every song translates well to medieval instruments like a lute, zither, and recorder. But this hardcore cover of the R.E.M. track Losing My Religion by musician Algal the Bard plays out perfectly. Perhaps the Athens alt-rock band was born in the wrong century.

Get ready to shed a tear or three with this cover version of the R.E.M. track Everybody Hurts, performed with heaps of emotion by the sad clown with the golden voice, Puddles Pity Party. It’s a somber song but offers sage advice for anyone struggling with difficult times.

Musician “The Little Strummer Boy” and vocalist pal Kurt Grunsky performed a great cover version of R.E.M.’s 1991 hit Losing My Religion with a twangy country/bluegrass vibe. We always pictured this song with being played on the banjo for some reason.
