Awesome Nightmares

The Torso 2 robot is impressive but is also nightmare fuel. The top half of Clone’s humanoid robot has 910 simulated muscle fibers that are controlled using pneumatic actuation. It has 165 degrees of freedom, including moving hands, wrists, and fingers. Don’t be too scared yet – all of its movements have to be programmed by humans – for now. (Thanks, Rob!)

Animator Lee Hardcastle is known for his gory and twisted claymation shorts, including Rick and Morty’s Non Canonical Adventures. In Dreaming Child, we’re transported into the mind of a young boy whose dream starts out joyful but quickly turns into a surreal nightmare.

While his eyes always gave us the creeps, Thomas the Tank Engine is a pretty charming character. But in the hands of Adam from North of the Border, he’s is anything but pleasant. To turn Thomas evil, Adam sculpted a clay version of the anthropomorphic train with a blood red body, pointy teeth, and spider legs.

At first glance, it appears that this bedroom is home to a variety of strange phenomena, but are we looking at the real world, or are we inside a nightmare? Animator Andy Kennedy’s Slow Wave takes us on a trippy ride through one person’s disturbed sleep.
