Awesome Hassan Abu-izmero

While he could have just bought a cheap jigsaw, Hassan Abu-Izmero enjoys a challenge, so he got to building himself a fully-functional jigsaw that’s driven by the rotating action of a power drill. It took a simple yet clever bit of engineering to convert the drill’s circular motion into the saw’s longitudinal motion.

Artist and maker Hassan Abu-Izmero was given the nacelle from a decommissioned jet engine as a gift. After thinking about what to do with the unusual piece of junk, he decided to clean out its interior, add shelves and lights, and turn it into a liquor cabinet for storing his whiskey. It’s a cool build, though we’d need a 777 engine to hold all our booze.

Builder Hassan Abu-Izmero had a little time on his hands and decided to build himself a piece of furniture that celebrates his craft. He made the rustic wooden table from rough pieces of timber and steel, then used a Shaper Tools Origin handheld CNC to route out precise insets for five wrenches embedded in its tabletop.

Metalsmith Hassan Abu-Izmero came up with the idea to build a modular outdoor tool that works as a pickaxe, a saw, and a shovel in one. While there are off-the-shelf tools with similar versatility, we appreciate the work that went into Hassan’s custom-built multitool.

Hammers typically have a solid metal or wood handle and a solid metal head. But this unique hand tool by Hassan Abu-Izmero (with the help of his trainee Damian) conceals that structure under dozens of stainless steel washers welded together. The washers appear to be purely aesthetic, but they sure look cool.

The beautiful patterns of damascus steel make for some of our favorite tools and knives, and the thicker the tool, the more dramatic the look. Rather than melting down and reforging the metal from an old sawblade, metalsmith Hassan “Habu” Abu-Izmero wanted to see if he could just cut, grind, and polish the old metal into a new weapon. The transformation from the rusty old blade into machete is impressive. The paracord-wrapped handle looks great too.

As we’ve seen before, it’s possible to make a weapon out of melted washers. But Hassan Abu-Izmero was challenged by a friend to build a viking axe by welding the washers together, rather than melting them down and forging them. The resulting axe looks super cool, and actually works thanks to its razor-sharp cutting edge.
