Awesome Emily The Engineer

If you’ve used a 3D printer, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with Benchy. This little boat model is used to benchmark print quality. While most people print Benchy as a palm-size model, Emily the Engineer thought it would be fun to make one that she could fit inside. However, the design required some modifications to keep the boat afloat.

Emily the Engineer, proves yet again that just because something CAN be done doesn’t mean it SHOULD be. She recently got a bee in her bonnet about 3D printing a toilet. Before printing the full-size version in pieces, she made a working scale model. After she got the real deal working, she started adding a bunch of unnecessary features.

Consumer 3D printers are great for producing small objects, but for larger things, you need to either buy a massive industrial printer or use one of those special printers that can print onto a moving belt. Emily the Engineer did neither of those things and instead modded a cheap 3D printer by adding long aluminum rails to extend its range of motion.
