Awesome Beyond The Press

After smashing stuff with their shop’s new 300-ton hydraulic press, the Beyond the Press channel got to work on a different kind of destruction. For maximum explosive carnage, they took car and truck tires and filled them way past their safe limits with a 4350 psi (300 bar) air compressor. Don’t try anything like this at home – it’s incredibly dangerous.

When Lauri Vuohensilta isn’t crushing things with his 150-ton hydraulic press, he enjoys making things explode. In this clip from his Beyond the Press channel, he and the guys from Pyrokratia rigged up nearly 7000 blocks of recalled fireworks to explode at the same time. This is totally going to be our new bedtime white noise.

It’s not nearly as large as their record-setting ice carousel, but this spinning race track from the Beyond the Press channel looks like a fun wintertime activity. We did get a little dizzy watching the video at times, though. In case you’re interested, those three-wheeled, all-season scooters come from Skick.

Angle grinders can be quite dangerous if not used properly – and in the hands of the Beyond the Press channel, they’re far more likely to cause harm. For their series Grinder Discs That Shouldn’t Exist , they wanted to see what would happen if they attached a circular saw blade to an angle grinder. Then they leveled things up 4x.

The guys from the Beyond the Press channel teamed up with the fabrication experts at Speweld to create a cube out of 2″ thick steel, then took it to a safe place to see what would happen if they set off a homemade grenade inside of it. We’re incredibly impressed by construction of the steel box.

Friction welding is the process of joining two metals together by spinning them rapidly until they heat up enough to meld together. Anni, Lauri, and his dad Timo from the Beyond the Press channel show how rigged up an old manual lathe to join two hammers together by rapidly spinning one while the other was stationary.

You wouldn’t think that something as innocuous as corn starch could cause a massive fireball, but you’d be wrong. The Beyond the Press channel conducted a series of experiments to show just how flammable various kinds of dust and powder can be when exposed to a flame. They didn’t try non-dairy creamer though.

The Beyond the Press channel continues to find new things to put in front of their amazing Chronos slow-motion bullet time camera rig, this time capturing incredible 360º footage of air rifle pellets being fired through a variety of fragile objects, then skipping a projectile across water.

(PG-13: Language) It’s common knowledge that spinning a CD too fast can cause it to fail spectacularly and shatter into thousands of shards. The guys from the Beyond the Press channel captured the deadly carnage in front of their $400,000, 72-camera Chronos bullet time rig.

(PG-13: Language) One upside to living in Finland is the ready access to frozen lakes. Lauri and Anni of the Beyond the Press channel decided to take advantage of this by driving a Subaru with tires made from giant circular saw blades onto the ice to see what would happen.

When they’re not crushing things with their hydraulic press, Lauri and Anni are fooling around in the snowy countryside of Finland. This week, they managed to create a single-person hot tub made entirely from ice. The color of that hot water is more than a bit sketchy.
