YouTuber I Did a Thing has made more than his share of dumb and dangerous things. For this video, he took on a couple of his viewers’ bad ideas and attempted to build them. First up is a bidet powered by a pressure washer, followed by a ceiling fan with machete blades, a jackhammer pogo stick, and solar panel sunglasses.

Inspired by the shavings created by sharpening pencils, designer Nanako Kume created a series of hanging lampshades with gigantic versions of the curly wood scraps. She started out by making an oversized pencil sharpener, then massive pencils to stick into it. Her process is just as fascinating as the finished pieces.

This kit from Teenage Engineering and designer/musician Yuri Suzuki lets you create your own low-fi vinyl records. Once assembled, connect an audio source to its 3.5mm jack, place a 5″ vinyl blank on the turntable, and start it spinning to record monophonic sounds. Records 4 minutes a side @ 33 RPM or 3 minutes @ 45 RPM.

Modern rice cookers are made from metal and plastic, but traditional Korean rice cookers are made from stone. This fascinating video from Factory Monster takes us inside a company that creates the bowl-shaped cookers and their lids by cutting them from a 9-ton boulder. The English subtitles are quite entertaining.

Metalsmith Gavin Clark shows us a series of maneuvers he used to tie a length of 1/2″ rebar into a clove hitch knot. We’re impressed that he did it without applying heat.

Artist Steven Richter has wowed us with his sculptures before. This time he took on a different kind of challenge – replicating the rocket car from the end of Toy Story. He started by modifying existing toys, sculpting a new head for Woody, and building a model rocket. He then assembled it all into this crazy creation.

We’ve seen Cassie, the Ostrich-shaped robot strut her stuff before. Now the speedy automaton has set a record for the fastest 100-meter dash ever run by a bipedal robot. With a time of 24.73 seconds, she’s no Usain Bolt, but it’s still an impressive achievement for the engineers from Oregon State University.

Students and staff from New York’s Long Beach Middle School broke the Guinness World Record for the “Most Cereal Boxes Toppled in a Domino Fashion” by setting up hallway after hallway with more than 6300 boxes of breakfast cereal.
