Visualizing the Depth of the Earth

The center of Earth is 6731 km (~3958 mi) from its surface. To help understand just how far that is, MetaBallStudios created this animation that imagines how tall a column would be if it emerged from the planet’s core and pushed its way into outer space. To make things more interesting, the column is made from the stuff you’d find deep underground.
