Awesome Turbines

We’ve seen a skateboard powered by a pulsejet; now, here’s one that uses a turbine. After explaining how turbine engines work, Integza created a replica of the turbine used by the infamous V-2 rocket. He had the main part fabricated by JLC3DP and then made a set of reduction gears to increase torque. The turbine spins when exposed to high-pressure gas.

Maker Ivan Miranda lives in a beautiful place in Spain. But he hates when it rains there, and he doesn’t like carrying an umbrella. So he set about the task of engineering a motorized helmet that uses a powerful motor and a turbine to blow the rain away from his body. And yes, it works in real rain.

Giant wind turbines are a common sight in the countryside, and we’ve occasionally seen them being transported on long flatbeds. But getting their enormous fan blades up a mountain along curvy switchbacks poses a unique set of challenges. This video from China’s CGTN shows just how they do it.
