Awesome The Mandalorian

We might not be getting a Mandalorian holiday special any time soon, but if we ever do, we already have the theme song. AtinPiano’s mashup of Ludwig Göransson’s epic Mando score with the Christmas classic Carol of the Bells would fill the bill perfectly. They previously gave The Imperial March the holiday treatment.

Thanks to The Mandalorian, Boba Fett is back in our lives once more. And thanks to Burned by Design, the badass bounty hunter can be a permanent fixture in your backyard. While we’ve genuinely enjoyed every chapter of The Mandalorian, some of the episodes feel more like side missions in an RPG rather than driving the main storyline forward. Season two of The Mandalorian has been quite a thrill so far, though the Razor Crest has seen more than its share of abuse along the way. Novelty band The Merkins celebrate the second season of The Mandalorian with a parody of the Guns N’ Roses track Sweet Child O’ Mine, with the lyrics rewritten to be about everyone’s favorite 50-year-old child, Baby Yoda. The lead vocals are spot-on thanks to special guest singer Alvi Robinson of the rock band The L.A. Maybe.

The Mandalorian is a pretty damned fine series as-is. But it’s still fun to envision variants of the show, like this fun anime style opening put together by Malec, Martial Coulon, Antoine Bertrand, KronoMuzik, and Kenny dozo. Kawaii Baby Yoda is just as adorable as his live-action inspiration.

The Mandalorian is returning to Disney+ on 10.30.2020, so it only makes sense that Screen Junkies would seize upon the chance to make an Honest Trailer for the hit series. Despite being such an excellent show, they still found plenty of reasons to poke fun at its characters and storylines.

With Season 2 of The Mandalorian fast approaching, LEGO enlisted the help of three builders to create a replica of The Child (aka Baby Yoda) out of nearly 15,000 bricks. The 22″ tall model took over 119 hours to complete, and also includes the little green dude’s floating bassinet.

The visual effects in The Mandalorian are impressive for a TV show. In addition to tech like The Volume, VFX firms like PXO contribute to many shots. In this reel, the company shows off CG breakdowns for various shots from the series, including some of the more memorable creatures they helped to bring to life.

Composer Ludwig Göransson is the musical genius behind the score from The Mandalorian. Now, courtesy of director Isaac Ravishankara, we have an official music video for the opening theme that offers a glimpse into the musician at work, as he creates the richly textured sounds of the modern western.

One of our favorite characters to emerge from The Mandalorian is IG-11. The robotic bounty hunter didn’t last long but the Taika Waititi-voiced droid certainly left a lasting impression. Hot Toys‘ sixth-scale figure measures 14″ tall, has 29 points of articulation, and has a light-up mechanical head. His waist can even spin 360º.

16 years have passed and Baby Yoda is no longer the adorable child he was playing with the controls aboard the Razor Crest. He’s now an angsty, sulking goth teenager… and Mando has a real dad bod. See how this scenario plays out in AOK’s animated parody.

During Toy Fair 2020, Gizmodo got an up-close look at Hasbro’s awesome Baby Yoda animatronic toy. The $60 plush figure can move its head, wiggle its hears, open and close its big eyes, and makes adorable sounds. Available for pre-order now, with shipping December 2020. The high tech bassinet is sadly not included.

ILM takes us behind the scenes of The Mandalorian to see how visual effects tech developed with Epic Games are used to create the series. Rather than shoot on location or in front of a green screen, the series uses a gigantic, wraparound screen to surround actors with digital scenery which can move in sync with a camera.

The Mandalorian certainly owes alot to western films like A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. But what would it have looked like if it actually were a spaghetti western? Kingkida’s stylized trailer does a great job imagining just that, complete with the proper music, typeface, and film grain.

Illustrator dvglzv loves to create imaginary comic book covers based on pop culture. He recently put together an brilliant series of vintage-style Marvel covers for each of The Mandalorian’s eight initial episodes. We’d love to see full comic books done this in this style.
