Awesome Tenacious D

“And we said nay, we are but men.” Polyphonic’s April Fools’ video is only partly silly. In it, he explores the references, metaphors, and themes in Tenacious D’s seminal song Tribute. It’s a surprisingly rich dive with lots of interesting trivia. It ends with a pragmatic reflection on chasing perfection versus finding fulfillment in the act of creation itself.

(PG-13) Jack Black never plays video games anymore… except for all of them. That’s what we gleaned from this Tenacious D track and its animated music video by Oneyplays’  Chris “Oney” O’Neill and Adam Paloian. By the end, you’ll be rooting for Kyle Gass to exact his revenge. And here we thought they were friends til the end.

During a recent performance on Live @ SiriusXM, Tenacious D turned in a great mix of originals and covers, including this killer performance of the Chris Isaak tune Wicked Game – and yes, Jack Black even hit that high note. They also did a fun-loving medley of Beatles songs.

Tenacious D’s 2022 covers-for-charity song is a trio of classics by The Who – Pinball Wizard, There’s A Doctor, and Go To The Mirror! Jack and Kyle bring their usual mix of humor and melodrama to the medley, which is available on streaming platforms, and an exclusive 7″ single, with proceeds going to Everytown for Gun Safety.

(PG-13: Language) Jack Black and Kyle Gass add their trademark over-the-top stylings to The Beatles double-header You Never Give Me Your Money and The End, with all of the swearing, scat singing, and goofball embellishments you’d expect from the duo. Tenacious D documents their off-stage antics on tour in Bogota, Colombia, as they attempt to stowaway on a plane; challenge Foo Fighters and Weezer in anexplosive game of Tejo, Colombia’s national drunken sport; and the heavy heavy-metalheads demonstrate the workout that keeps them “obese instead of morbidly obese.”
