Don’t worry if you missed the life-size Gundam statue in Tokyo. It’s now in Shizuoka; you have until March 2011 to kiss, hug and attempt to take home this epic statue and his beam saber.
The 59-foot Gundam may have been dismantled, but it’ll get a second lease on life (and some Minovsky particles) in July: it’ll be rebuilt outside Shizuoka station with a beam saber.
It’s not as tall the “real” Autobot leader, this 2.5 meter, 550 kg Optimus Prime statue can fight for freedom and toy licensing deals any day; it’s made with over 5,000 recycled steel parts.
Kobe’s 59 foot tall Gigantor is finished; costing $1.5 million and weighing 50 tons, it’s Japan’s way of saying “In your face!” to the 1995 quake as it also serves as the city’s guardian angel.
