LEGO presents its biggest Star Wars set yet – an incredible 4,784 piece model of the Imperial Star Destroyer. The ship measures 43″ long and 26″ wide, and includes tons of details, like swiveling guns, a tilting radar dish, and massive engines, as well as a scale model of the Rebels’ Tantive IV. LEGO worked with synthesizer wiz Sam Battle of Look Mum No Computer to put together an electronic orchestra comprised of 42 real musical instruments and over 95 of LEGO’s Star Wars BOOST droids, all controlled by a bunch of mechanically-activated tablets. Of course, they played John Williams’ classic theme.
During the 2019 D23 Expo, Disney teased just a little more of Star Wars: Episode IX, which was always planned by George Lucas to be the end of the Skywalker saga. The first minute or so looks fondly backwards, as the remaining footage teases Rey’s rise, and new conflicts between dark and light.
Walt Disney World’s most immersive experience yet will be a new hotel being built next to Galaxy’s Edge. The Galactic Starcruiser will make multi-day guests feel like they’re inside a spaceship – the Halcyon – via galactic views, hotel staff portrayed by characters like Chewbacca, and a port day on the planet Batuu.
The first of what we are sure will be many Star Wars stories on its way to the new Disney+ streaming service takes place between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order. Animator Ian Wilkins is working on a new Star Wars-inspired series, a fan film project based on Tom Veitch and Cam Kennedy’s beloved Dark Empire comics, in which Palpatine returns from the dead and Luke struggles with his dark side. The awesome music in the trailer comes from composer Daniel Ciurlizza.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is an action adventure game that takes place across all nine Star Wars films, modified of course with more whimsy and humor. You’ll be able to jump to any movie setting and progress as you wish. Coming to consoles and Windows in 2020.
The first gameplay trailer for the action adventure game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order shows the friends and foes you’ll meet as Jedi-in-training Cal Kestis. A lengthy gameplay video showcases Cal’s combat abilities and Force powers. The game drops 11/15/19.
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope came out in May, 1977. A few months later, ABC aired this gem, a one-hour behind-the-scenes special which went inside the production, with hosts C-3PO and R2-D2. It’s a wonderful watch for any fan of the franchise, and serves as a great time capsule of pre-CGI visual effects.
Camino Audio’s upcoming Star Wars Bluetooth speaker is a life-size bust of Darth Vader, complete with his chest computer and a clenched fist. Inside are two 2″ tweeters, two 2.75″ full-range drivers, and one 4″ woofer. It also has four 2.1A USB charging ports at the back.
Gaming accessory maker Razer is offering a series of licensed Star Wars peripherals, including a Black Widow Lite mechanical keyboard, an Atheris gaming mouse, and an oversized Goliathus mouse/desk pad, each decked out in bold black and white theme inspired by Stormtrooper armor.
FXItInPost took a famous sequence from A New Hope, and reworked with new footage, clever editing, and VFX to make the battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader far more thrilling. It’s impressive, but we couldn’t help but think about George Lucas endlessly reworking his classics.
