Awesome Skittles

What happens when you remove all of the moisture from Skittles? Crunchy candy magic, that’s what. Salt City Treats is one of several candy makers selling these tangy-sweet treats that might just convert you from regular Skittles. Though if you get hooked it might be cheaper to buy plain Skittles and your own freeze dryer.

Over on Etsy, you can find a variety of bottle openers that have a Plinko-style drop mechanism. But Thompson Woodworks built the best version we’ve seen, combining the bottle opener with a Skittles dispenser that triggers only if you land your bottle cap in the proper tray at the bottom.

This bit of geeky fun comes courtesy of builder JohnO3, who created a machine which works like a giant dot-matrix printer. Except in this case, it deposits colorful and tangy Skittles to create its prints instead of droplets of ink. He provided the full build details on Instructables, should you want to build your own candy printer.

You could make a Skittles-flavored donut by sprinkling some of the chewy candies on a glazed Krispy Kreme, but the guys at the Hydraulic Press Channel prefer to make donuts with industrial equipment. Using a custom-machined tool, they squish some M&Ms and Skittles into toroid shapes. They look like giant Life Savers.

Jumbo the rainbow! A new version of the popular sweet and tart candy is headed into stores. The big difference? Skittles Giants are three times the size of regular Skittles. At this point, they’re only available in the UK, but we imagine that the import market will eventually start shipping these stateside.
