Awesome Skates

Ilia Savosin loves to roll around on unusual inline skates. After mastering the rail grind on his computer skates, he figured out how to get housework done while enjoying his sport by turning a pair of vacuum cleaners into skates. From the looks of this other video, vacuuming could also be a team sport.

After building a hubless bicycle, inventor and maker The Q used his skills to create a similar pair of roller blades. He created their wheels using large ball bearings, which he wrapped with tire rubber and sandwiched between layers of steel to create a frame for each boot. They kind of look like tiny TRON lightcycles attached to his feet.

The 2011 Ice and Snow Festival is coming soon to China’s Heilongjiang province, and so far it looks pretty darn spectacular. Events will include snow splashing, skating and skiing races. Ok; sign us up.

You have to be really daring, or really stupid to inline skate jump off of the Eiffel Tower, but that’s exactly what Taïg Khris did this weekend, setting a new world record with this 40-meter jump.
