Awesome Ska

The theme music from Tetris is a big part of what made the video game so popular. Musician JER of the Skatune Network and We Are the Union transformed the classic Russian chiptune into an energetic piece of ska, with its trademark quick beats, layered brass, and organ sounds.

It doesn’t get more bubbly than the 1984 Wham! hit Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go. But Jeremy Hunter of Ska Tune Network cranks the bubble machine up to 11 with his effervescent cover of the track, jamming it full of energy and upgrading it with a great brass section.

Ska Tune Network presents a fun one-man cover version of the Eurythmics track Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), replacing the original’s synth sounds with a reggae bass beat, and a lively brass section, giving the song an upbeat dance party vibe.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ track The Impression That I Get came out in 1997, but it’s ska sounds are pretty timeless. On the other hand, Mick Mazz’s cover of the track uses the distinctive synth pop sounds of the 1980s to place it smackdab alongside songs like A-Ha’s Take on Me and Howard Jones’ Life in One Day.

Jeremy Hunter of Ska Tune Network brightens our day once again with another fun cover, this time taking on Blink-182’s punk-pop hit “All the Small Things,” and spicing it up with some much needed brass and dash of tropical riddim.

Some songs lend themselves better to different styles than others. But we had no idea how perfectly Modest Mouse’s jangly alt-pop song Float On would transform into ska. Listen and enjoy as Ska Tune Network flips the track on its head.

We always enjoy listening to Ska Tune Network’s performances, and this might be our favorite yet. Crank up your headphones, and tune in for Jeremy Hunter’s smooth and jazzy ska cover of “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Ska Tune Network takes a break from performing songs in ska style, and instead plays a ska tune in 12 other styles. We’re not sure that The Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ track works so well as an R&B song, but we’re suddenly convinced that Owl City could pull off a cover.

The Ska Tune Network’s peppy cover version of the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s classic piano track from A Charlie Brown Christmas is sure to have you dancing and tapping your toes at your desk. As an added bonus, you’ll enjoy a little extra holiday cheer along the way.

The appropriately-named Ska Tune Network presents a wonderfully upbeat cover version of the background music found in the Mii Channel on the Nintendo Wii. We’re pretty sure its impossible not to move and groove while listening to this.
