A man has been trapped aboard his own spaceship for years, as his robot guardian insists that not a single planet they’ve visited is habitable. But what’s the real reason he’s not allowed to disembark? Gökalp Gönen’s short film is a thought-provoking and creative work of science fiction with a fantastic style and mood.

After humanity has met its end, what will happen to the machines we leave behind? Michael Dockery’s eerie animated short film imagines just that, as robots roam a desolated Earth, left to their own devices, endlessly downloading old information and destroying their own kind as they search for a purpose.

The neon glow of Blade Runner’s Los Angeles is one of the most iconic looks in all of science fiction. Yesteryear Prop Store sells real neon signs based on ones seen in the movie. Our favorite is the noodle bar dragon, but if you’ve got the bucks and the space, go for the giant TDK sign and reenact Roy Batty’s Tears in the Rain speech.

But he becomes obsessed with one case, leading him down a dark path. Stars Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson, and Thandiwe Newton. Coming to HBO Max and theaters on 8.20.21.

Filmmaker Ian Hubert spent the better part of three years creating this short film which drops us into a Blade Runner-esque world. VFX artist Ian Hubert put together this short but impressive animation which drops us into a sci-fi race filled with insane rocket bikes. He created the clip using Blender and After Effects, and data from a Rokoko mocap suit for the pilots’ movements. This is so much better than the pod racing sequence in The Phantom Menace.

Taehoon Park’s awe-inspiring science fiction short film envisions a universe where machines have replaced by humans. A lone character survives by grafting his body with technology and attempts to escape in a human body he cloned. It’s only a tease of a bigger story, and we’d love to see this evolve into a feature film.

(PG-13: Language) Meet George. He works at a convenience store. He greets customers all day long, but he has no friends. George’s big problem? He’s a computer. After attempting to understand a human’s sense of humor, George upgrades his firmware, resulting in a malfunction. Matt Vesely’s short sci-fi comedy is well worth a watch.

Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp, and Colin Farrell star in this science fiction movie about a space mission to colonize a new planet. But the crew’s freedom is restricted, and emotions are numbed by a drug known as “Blue,” and chaos ensues when a group of young people decides to stop taking it. In theaters 4.9.2021.

(PG-13: Language) Korvo, Yumyulack, Terry, Jesse, and the Pupa are back and causing more mayhem than ever in season two of Solar Opposites. If you didn’t get to watch season one of Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan’s hilariously warped animated series, now’s a great time to do it with the second season hitting Hulu on 3.26.2021.

Taking place in 2074, this sci-fi/action series follows the stories of three siblings from a peaceful tribe who are separated and must find their own way through the madness. But we gradually learn the passage serves a terrifying purpose. Based on the 1961 short story The Tunnel Ahead by Alice Glaser.

This Korean sci-fi comedy follows the misfit crew of a spaceship who escape Earth’s impending destruction and attempt to make a living by salvaging space debris. After discovering a young stowaway, they realize she’s a valuable and dangerous target, and decide to demand a ransom for her return. Coming to Netflix 2.5.21.

After making a splash on the international film festival circuit in 2019, Valentyn Vasyanovych’s Atlantis has a U.S. distributor. Set in 2025, the film offers a glimpse into a future where Ukraine defeats Russia, and where people struggle to live and love in a desolate and dystopian world.

HBO’s hit series Westworld was inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1973’s feature film of the same name. The earlier film isn’t as expansive as the TV show, but it’s definitely as creepy. And now that you can stream the original on HBO Max, they’ve created a modern trailer for the classic version.

Based on Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse’s Dark Horse comic, Resident Alien follows the story of an extraterrestrial who crash-lands on Earth on a mission to destroy humanity, only to get distracted by a crime-solving mission while disguised as a human.
