Awesome Sci-fi

Avoid it if you haven’t seen Avatar yet, but Creating the World of Pandora is an excellent look behind the scenes; it covers visual effects, sound effects and actor training.

Supreme Commander 2 shows off its gameplay with two Battle trailers (1, 2), but most significant is that it now has (some) personality: they’ve added characters and dialog a-la Starcraft.

Available on DVD 1/25/10: equality gets taken to its illogical extremes in 2081, a 25 minute dystopic short film; it’s based on Kurt Vonnegut’s short story, Harrison Bergeron.

Already a best seller in Japan, Decimation X is now available on XBLA; essentially space invaders on steroids, the 2D shooter offers custom soundtracks and 2-4 player co-op modes.

This N7 Dev Diary for Mass Effect 2 shows how you can make Shepard a badass (or just an ass), but at the heart of it are the N7 missions: these optional quests are found by exploring planets.

Aside from a few strange sign choices, Johannes Krohn’s Alien Assault t-shirt is an exercise in 8-bit isometric awesomeness with giant robots, laser beams, and hapless humans.

Laser Cats 5 is James Cameron’s next billion-dollar sci-feline flick; the SNL skit is a cinema geek’s dream, with references to Cameron’s biggest movies and an in-alien-able cameo.

This Sci vs. Fi doc for Mass Effect 2 sounds technical, but it actually waxes philosophical on having a free world with a fixed ending, the virtues of sci-fi, and the interactivity of games.

NSFW or anyone who’s had breakfast: this Killing Moves trailer for Aliens vs. Predator is so brutal and fast-paced we had to take a breather; seriously, not a good day to be a colonial marine.

Mass Effect 2’s Soldier class gets a gun-slingin’ trailer above; it’s the only class that can use assault rifles and all special ammo types, plus the concussive shot and adrenaline powers.

The Transformers: War for Cybertron video we teased last month? It’s back as a two minute trailer and it’s utterly awesome: Optimus and Megatron: “One shall stand…one shall fall!”

Mass Effect 2’s Subject Zero gets in Shepard’s face in the trailer above; the human biotic is also psychotic, unpredictable, and always pissed off–in other words, a perfect squad member.

The Rocketeer: The Deluxe Complete Edition is a tribute to Dave Stevens, who sadly passed in 2008; his comic inspired the 1991 film and is included along with never-before-seen drawings.
