Awesome Rollercoasters

A few years back, we took a POV ride-along on a coaster ride that winds through the mountains in Kandersteg, Switzerland. That original video was fun, but shaky and a little grainy. The Flying Dutchman took the same ride, but wearing a better camera that shoots in crisp 4K and has image stabilization for a much smoother ride.

Using only the 2002 video game RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 as their canvas, ChuggersRCT managed to create a thrill ride that syncs up perfectly with Queen’s masterful operatic track Bohemian Rhapsody. Sure, the “Galileo” death spiral bit would probably do you in, but you’d be going out in style.

One of Disney theme parks’ most famous attractions is Space Mountain, a thrilling indoor rollercoaster that you ride in the dark. If you’ve ever wondered what the ride looked like with the lights on, Theme Park University is here to show you just how much less exciting it is.

If flying down a zipline isn’t thrilling enough, Skywalker Adventure Builders‘ crazy ride suspends a bendy track from an overhead structure, adding twists and turns to the mix. We’re not sure if it’s made by the same guys, but this one in Australia is 2.5 mi. long.

Model maker Adam Throgmorton shows off an incredible build – an intricate HO-scale replica of an old-school wooden rollercoaster that not only looks awesome, but is fully functional. Though the speed it zooms around at seems implausibly fast if it were to be scaled up.

Beyond the Brick takes a look at James Burrows’ incredible prehistoric-themed amusement park made from over 125,000 bricks. We so wish we could shrink down to minifig size and take a ride on the CoasterSaurus II.

Ohio’s Cedar Point amusement park plans on breaking ten records with its latest coaster. Once complete, it will not only be the tallest and fastest, but have the longest drop, highest inversion and more. Here’s a CG demo of what riders can expect in 2016. Birdseye view here.

Coming to Orlando, Florida in 2016, the mile-long Skyscraper will likely be one of the world’s most insane rollercoasters, snaking its way around a 55-story tower at speeds up to 65mph. Part of the new Skyplex entertainment complex.

An insane “4th Dimension” ride located in China, the Dinoconda not only follows the twists and turns of its track, but spins riders in loops in their own seats. Oh, and it starts out backwards. Better skip lunch before this one.

Good parents take their kids to amusement parks. Awesome parents take the amusement park to their kids. This one is made of PVC, lumber and concrete. A helmet on the kid would be nice.

This intricate wooden coaster was built way back in 1990, but that makes it no less awesome. The central mechanism is an screw-like conveyance taking marbles to the top – gravity does the rest.

Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth’s walk-on sculpture in Dulsberg, Germany has all the right twists and turns. Though we don’t think you can make the loop without anti-gravity boots. More pics here.

The world’s largest indoor amusement park. Has Ferrari-themed rides – including the world’s fastest roller coaster – as well as a collection of both vintage and contemporary Ferrari vehicles.

YouTuber purplefinale gives us a front row seat on the Takabisha, one of the rides at the Fuji-Q Highland amusement park. Its 121º freefall angle makes it the world’s steepest roller coaster.

Patrick Warburton prepares us for a safe ride on Zero Gravity Gulch, the rootinest, tootinest, gosh-darn good time of a roller coaster East (or is it West?) of the Mississippi.

Little Losiah is totally stoked for his very first rollercoaster ride. Then the ride kicks in. Maybe next time they should go with the tea cups or the merry-go-round. It’ll get better someday, Losiah.

Before anyone out there gets ready to flip out at the amusement park, you should know that the NJ State Fair closed the ride down for the WFPF to film these sick parkour moves. Kids: no, you may not.

Created for Abu Dhabi’s Ferrari World, the Formula Rossa rollercoaster is designed to give riders the sensation of riding in a real F1 race car. It tops out 150mph, which it achieves in less than 4.9 seconds.

Can you imagine going through an entire rollercoaster ride without any expression? That’s exactly what this guy managed to do. We did see him blink a couple of times, though.
