Awesome Resin

Carved makes beautiful accessories out of burled wood and pools of resin. Their Alloy wallets add metal to the mix. Each has a machined aluminum compartment for up to five cards and an O-ring that holds cash. Like their other items, each one is unique, with organic patterns reminiscent of the ocean, rocks, and trees.

Lazer Lizard Designs makes these unique drink coasters inspired by honey bees and their hives. Each coaster is crafted from laser-cut wood filled with a smooth epoxy resin that looks like honey. The price shown here is for a set of four with a matching holder, but they also sell them in other quantities.

Carved makes these unique rings using the same techniques as their beautiful phone cases and other eyecatching objects. Each one features an inlay of burled wood and colorful resin set into a 316L stainless steel band. They come in five colors and ring sizes from 5 to 12.

We’ve seen what’s inside of a typical pool ball, and also a cool version made from stainless steel. Now, BensWorx is here to show us how to make a cast resin 8-ball from scratch. He started with a cup full of black resin, which he cured and then turned on a lathe. The trickiest part was creating the numeric insert.

With enough skill and epoxy resin, you can make a guitar out of just about anything. Maker Noe Hervas shows off a colorful electric guitar he built by cutting a custom wood mold, filling it with stacks of guitar picks bathed in clear resin. At least he saved one pick to play it with.

After the Waterjet Channel’s less-than-perfect attempt to preserve a whole pizza in resin, maker Peter Brown thought he might be able to do better given his extensive experience with casting. It took a lot of pre-work, but the finished piece is the perfect pizza serving tray.

We’ve been enjoying North of the Border’s creative sculptures and sassy narration for a while now. Adam’s polymer clay and resin sculpt imagines a giant space monster that has gotten its tentacles around Earth and is ready to gulp us all down like a giant jawbreaker covered with ants.

Artist WUZU Clay built this miniature scene inspired by the blocky world of Minecraft. They made the underwater ocean temple by cutting and sculpting precise squares of polymer clay, layering them, and then submerging the structure in clear resin. The level of detail in the characters and plants is truly impressive.

We wish real-life currency looked like Rupees from the Legend of Zelda games. Artist Squowks shows how they made a set of the colorful gemstones by pouring UV-cured resin into faceted molds they made from sheets of plastic. Minibricks is a master at model making. For their latest project, the created an incredible diorama featuring a tentacled sea beast swimming through an pool of clear resin. The piece, titled SUBNAUTICA conjures memories of The Shape of Water and Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Mixing objects in resin holds them together so they can be worked like a block of wood. Preston Miller shows how he took a pound of Peet’s coffee beans, soaked them in epoxy resin, and then turned the block into a truly unique coffee mug. Artist Ray Whitby shows how he created a unique cylindrical jigsaw puzzle. He first designed and 3D printed the pieces using wood PLA filament, sealed them with superglue, and filled them with blue resin. He then attached the pieces and turned them on a lathe. Using latex to protect the pieces from excess resin was key.

Got some scratched-up vinyl records you don’t care about anymore? Maker Nick Zammeti saturated a stack of old 45s in resin, then shaved them down on a lathe in an attempt to create a layered bowl. The project was not without its challenges, but Nick came up with a creative use for the bits he was able to salvage.

We’ve seen artists create miniature and LEGO versions of The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Now watch as Minibricks crafts an incredible 3D rendition of Hokusai’s iconic Japanese illustration by sculpting foam blocks, then coating them with blue and white resins. The 3D-printed boats are even filled with tiny passengers.

Artist Jerry Lo of WosinCraft makes these uniquely beautiful keyboard wrist rests from resin, colorful pigments, and wood. Designs include soothing scenes of mountains, galaxies, ocean waves, and other dreamlike places. The transparent areas allow lighting to shine through from edge-lit keyboards for even more impact.

4THECRAFT is an expert at making dioramas sealed inside of clear resin. In this video, they walk us through the process of creating a scene of a meteor crashing into a building, combining 3D printing, hand-painting, and model-making techniques to create an awe-inspiring visual. The lighting inside the fireball really brings it to life.
