DJI’s new Mavic Pro is the Phantom’s not so little brother. It’s foldable and shoots 4K at 30fps. It has a 3-axis gimbal, the same subject and obstacle detection features as the Phantom 4, a 4.3mi range and a 27-min battery life.
The Phantom 4 has tap-to-fly and subject tracking modes with obstacle detection for newbie-friendly flight. It has a range of 3mi, lasts up 28min. per charge, and has a camera that shoots 4K at 24, 25 and 30fps and 1080p at 60 and 120fps.
The Byrd drone is the first of its kind to be fully collapsible, folding into a backpack-sized package without disassembly. Its lasts up to 29min. per charge, transmits video from up to 1.2mi away and has hot-swappable camera attachments. Drops 11/15 for $950+.
The Phantom 3 Standard is DJI’s most affordable drone yet. It can shoot videos at up to 2704×1520 and takes 12MP stills. You can control it from up to 0.5mi away for up to 25mins, and it has a variety of automated modes.
Each of Yeair’s four rotors is powered by a 600W motor and a 1kW two-stroke engine. Yep, gas engines. This hybrid configuration allows it to fly at up to 62mph, carry loads up to 11lb. and fly for up to 1 hour. Not sure the FAA will like this.

The AirDog is a quadcopter that can automatically follow and film a moving subject, thanks to its wearable tracker and remote control. It can also be controlled manually. Works with GoPro Hero 3/3+ cameras.
Next Level Aerial Filming claims it has developed an autonomous video camera system that works with a variety of aerial drones. Users will specify how they want the shot to be framed and the drone will follow the subject on its own.
Drone photography is usually shot from the POV of the drone. FICTION used the drone itself as the subject, attaching lights to a DJI Phantom, shooting long-exposures of its flights, then making kaliedoscopic patterns in Photoshop.
The Phantom 2 Vision has a 14mp camera that can shoot 1080p videos. Its mobile app gives you a live camera view and lets you transfer and share media. It also has an auto-pilot mode and a battery that lets you fly for up to 25 minutes.
