Awesome Pong

Arcade1Up continues to build out its collection of retro-inspired video game cabinets with this stand-up system that lets four people play Pong at the same time. It also plays Warlords, Circus Atari, Tempest, Super Breakout, and a couple of other Pong variants. Pre-orders start shipping 4.1.2021.

Atari, working in collaboration with UNIS Technology, Ltd. is bringing back its 1970s arcade classic PONG. This tabletop gaming system has a 7.9″ LCD panel and offers both classic 2-player mode, and 1-player vs. AI mode. It runs on USB power or AAA batteries and is shipping in limited quantities now.

Back in the 1970s, Pong was all the rage. But for those who didn’t have a spare TV to play the game on, there were handheld knock-offs like Blip. YouTube channel Tech Tangents takes a look at this unusual piece of gaming history, and shows off its clever mechanical innards.

Inspired by this earlier design, this coffee table lets you play a mechanical version of the classic Atari arcade game. It packs USB charging ports and a Bluetooth speaker as well. It’s available with matching ottomans, and in coin-op arcade table and cocktail styles.

Instructables member oliverb made an Arduino-powered digital clock that has a fun mode. It can tell the time by playing Pong with itself, updating the score to accurately reflect the time. It can also show the time in large digits or with words. Learn how to make one here.

Love Hulten’s wall-mounted arcade machine not only plays classic games, but is modeled after the design of the original 1972 Pong machine. It has dual arcade controls, and an 19″ LCD screen, and a software barrel-distortion mask to match its curved bezel.

Daniel Perdomo’s DIY analog PONG table is now an officially-licensed Atari product. It preserves the original game’s control scheme but on a larger, physical form. The knobs can be covered when you want to have a normal table. Available in four designs.

Developer Kingpenguin created this insane retro-style game which manages to seamlessly incorporate elements of Pac-Man, Pong, and Space Invaders all on the same playfield. Available for Windows, Mac or Linux.

In 2012 Amelie Künzler, Sandro Engel and Holger Michel thought of making a Pong console for pedestrians waiting to cross the street. Now they have a working prototype and are raising funds to develop it further.
