The NetMusic YouTube channel specializes in isolating vocals from the music in various songs. This edit is a true gem, highlighting the amazing vocal talents of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush as they perform their 1986 duet Don’t Give Up. After listening to this, it feels like the music was almost unnecessary.
Awesome Peter Gabriel
What happens when put two earworms in a jar, poke some holes in its lid, and leave them to get freaky? You end up with something like DJ Cummerbund’s combo of Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer and Lizzo’s Good as Hell. Toss in a little Stevie Wonder, Red Hot Chili Peppers, TLC, and Rihanna, and you have a meta-hit on your hands.
Times are rough, and we could all use a little encouragement. This cover version of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush’s 1986 duet Don’t Give Up, sung soulfully by Puddles Pity Party and Rebekah Del Rio provides some much needed inspiration – in both English and Spanish.
Musician David Gray sat down in the BBC Radio 2 Piano Room and turned in an absolutely fantastic cover version of the 1986 Peter Gabriel hit Sledgehammer. The purity of the acoustic performance truly shines a light on Gray’s oh-so-warm and ever-so-raspy vocals.
The cleverly-monikered Ninja Sex Party turns in an epically good cover version of Peter Gabriel’s heartfelt ballad In Your Eyes, capturing the emotional intensity of the original, while giving it a fresh sound of their own. From the consistently entertaining Under the Covers, Vol. II.
This new track from Peter Gabriel features the sort of richly layered production, piercing rhythms, and global influences we’ve come to expect, at times reminiscent of the sound of his hit album Up. We can only hope it’s indicative of a full album down the road.
