Awesome Old Spice

We can’t help but notice that Old Spice has given up on making us feel special. The folks making the company’s new commercials seem very bitter about how their life turned out. And we’re lucky they’re that way.

11-year-old Quinn Sheeran took a simple container of Old Spice deodorant and hacked it so it does something that it should have done since 1976 – it plays the theme from Rocky when you open it. Old Spice, hire this kid.

We have to hand it to Old Spice’s ad agency. Somehow they’ve managed to have more winners than losers with their ad campaigns, and despite being only 18 seconds long, their latest clip made us do a major spit-take at the end.

Wolfdog is gone, but it seems Old Spice still has its wit. Or its ad agency. This ad for its soap bar parodies classic commercial jingles and grooming products’ claims of all day freshness.

Old Spice has a new Chief Director of Marketing, Mr. Wolfdog. He stamps documents. He’s tech savvy. He connects with customers. He conducts interviews. He probably ate Isaiah Mustafa.

If you ever wondered how they shot those crazy Old Spice commercials, here’s a little look behind the scenes to show how they rigged up Isaiah Mustafa to do shoot a whole spot in a single take.

Old Spice hooks Terry Crews up to a bunch of electrodes, and makes music with his muscles, flaming saxes and sausages. At the end of the video, be sure to jam out on your keyboard.

This very clever promo video for the Dollar Shave Club is an great homage to the Old Spice ads we know and love; it’s filled with humor, energy and low budget creativity. (Thanks everyone!)

DreamWorks and Antonio Banderas manage to squeeze out some humor out of a tired old meme – and make your cat look stupid in the process – to promote the animated movie Puss in Boots.

We’re not sure if this is an actual ad – the scent being advertised doesn’t appear to exist – but it makes use of the visual hyperbole in the Old Spice Guy campaign, so it’s fun to watch nonetheless.

Just when we thought we were out, they pull us back in. Mike Relm’s musical remix of Isaiah Mustafa’s Old Spice spots is freaking brilliant. Procter & Gamble should be paying this guy.

Instead of continuing to milk their viral campaign for years (you hear us GEICO?) Old Spice has had the good sense to end it on a high note. At least we thought that until we saw the two videos after it.
