Morley Kert wanted to save floorspace in his workshop, so he had the crazy idea to build an office on the ceiling of the 18-foot-tall space. The over-engineered work pod features a geodesic dome shape with plexi panels and is suspended by a weight-bearing loft structure. We want a version that can be raised and lowered from the ceiling with pulleys.

After working from home for more than a decade, we love the idea of a standalone space to get away from distractions. Lou Maxon worked with architect Olson Kundig to create a home office on wheels that be rolled from the house into the woods of the Pacific Northwest. For the 2021 virtual Tokyo Auto Salon, Nissan showed off its concept for a sweet office on wheels. Based on their NV350 Caravan, the Office Pod features a desk module that can extend outside its rear, providing fresh air and a view of the world while you sit and work. It also has a see-through floor and a rooftop relaxation area.

Architect Mohamed Radwan took home a 2020 DNA Paris Design Award for his concept for a new kind of cubicle. Each of his hexagonal pods would have an airtight acrylic door and skylight, along with its own ventilation and air filtration system, reducing the likelihood of spreading germs within an office, while improving privacy.
