Awesome Mods

Lamborghini Jumpacan

Lamborghini Jumpacan

This insane vehicle started life as a Lamborghini Huracan, but now has an off-road suspension and an LS engine swap. B is for Build and the car’s owner Chris Steinbacher teamed up with Mint 400 and Mad Media head honcho Matt Martelli for a look at the car as it took to the desert for initial shakedown testing.

Hot Wheels PC Upgraded

Hot Wheels PC Upgraded

If you spent any time using computers back in the 1990s, you might remember the electric blue Hot Wheels PC with the flame job. Shank Mods took one of these colorful computing relics and rebuilt it with the latest high-performance PC hardware, then set up a bank of three of the matching CRT monitors for widescreen gaming.

Propeller Snow Trike

Propeller Snow Trike

Maker Peter Sripol adds to his collection of homebrew vehicles with the creation of a custom bicycle that can glide across snow, and is pushed along by a propeller. He and his brother first stabilized the bike frame by turning it into a trike, then added a trio of snowboards and a paramotor engine.

Pinball Machine Coffee Table

Pinball Machine Coffee Table

Several years back, we came across some coffee tables made from pinball machine parts, but you couldn’t actually play them. BuildXYZ wanted a playable machine in the space of a coffee table. So he took one of our favorite classic pinball machines, Bally’s Centaur, and completely rebuilt it into a more compact form factor.

The Ice Hoverboard

The Ice Hoverboard

We’ve seen how circular saw blades can be used to provide traction on ice – at least until they cut all the way through. The Q modified one of those wheeled “hoverboards” to ride on saw blades. He added metal plates to each of the blades’ teeth so it doesn’t dig in as much, but we still wouldn’t want to fall onto them.

Jet-Powered Tesla Model S

Jet-Powered Tesla Model S

One of the main reasons people buy a Tesla is that it runs on electric power. So the idea of outfitting a Model S with jet engines seems pretty counterintuitive. Warped Perception not only equipped his car with a trio of jet engines, he went the extra mile by adding a console with aircraft throttle controls inside the cabin.

Tesla Model S Plaid with a Minigun

Tesla Model S Plaid with a Minigun

When it comes to car acceleration, you can’t get much quicker than a Tesla Model S Plaid. FullMag equipped a Model S Plaid with a working M134 Minigun that just might be enough to convince slower cars to get out of the left lane. A second video shows a test firing with blanks and a night vision drive. (Thanks, Chris!)

Off-Road Tesla

Off-Road Tesla

The Tesla Model 3 is a modern and zippy electric daily driver. Now it’s off-road capable thanks to Rich Rebuilds and Grind Hard Plumbing Co.. They started with a totaled Model 3 with all-wheel-drive, fixed its electrical issues, widened its wheel spacing, lifted it 2″, and added a 12,000 lb. winch and Falken Wildpeak off-road tires.

Maxing Out Car Weight Reduction

Maxing Out Car Weight Reduction

Reducing weight is one most important things you can do when it comes to performance cars. Automotive enthusiast ChrisFix wanted to see just how much weight could be stripped out of his BMW E46 3-series in preparation for track usage. He also tested the impact of the weight loss on acceleration and braking.

Resident Evil Village with Barney

Resident Evil Village with Barney

To add to the replay value of Capcom’s Resident Evil Village demo, MarcosRC created a mod for the PC version that replaces the game’s creepy monsters with something even more terrifying: Barney the purple dinosaur. We can almost hear the pained echoes of “I love you, you love me, we’re a happy family” in the distance.

World’s Largest Working Nintendo Switch

World’s Largest Working Nintendo Switch

One of the best things about the Nintendo Switch is its ability to go from a handheld to a home console. If you prefer to play on a big screen, then Michael Pick’s mod is for you. The builder created this fully functional Switch with a TV and custom-made buttons. Best of all, he donated it to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

The Iron Fist Hammer

The Iron Fist Hammer

After making an axe shaped like a hand, Dirk from The Metalist thought his tool collection could use another hand. Or, more precisely, a fist. In this video, Dirk takes an old sledgehammer and makes it look like a clenched fist, ready to deliver blows to any building materials that stand in its way.

Thumb Mouse Game Controller

Thumb Mouse Game Controller

Joystick-based controllers are great for casual gamers, but hardcore players prefer a mouse and keyboard for precise control. Tech Yesterday shows off a custom-made gamepad with a thumb-driven optical sensor to bring mouse-like precision to a handheld controller thanks to a miniature optical circuit. (Thanks, Lambert!)

Overpowering a $300 Pocket Bike

Overpowering a $300 Pocket Bike

Grind Hard Plumbing Co. are known for their over-the-top rebuilds of toys like the Power Wheels Jeep and Barbie Power Wheels Mustang. More recently, they took one of those cheap pocket bikes you can buy on Amazon, increased its power by 10x, turned it into a snow bike, and finally, gave it a mountain bike suspension.

Wiiboy Color Handheld

Wiiboy Color Handheld

GingerofMods shows off an amazing portable game system that he built using parts from a Nintendo Wii. The trick to building the handheld was cutting up the Wii’s original circuit board and wiring them together with a mix of custom boards and circuits designed by Ginger and others in the modding community.

The Hellcat Buggy

The Hellcat Buggy

If you’re going to drive a high horsepower muscle car like a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, you usually want to have some nice fat tires to maximize grip. So the very idea of a Hellcat riding on horse-and-buggy wheels seems ludicrous. But this is the internet – and where there’s a will, there’s a way, as WhistlinDiesel demonstrates.

Tiny Cybertruck

Tiny Cybertruck

It seems as if the primitive design of Tesla’s Cybertruck makes it fairly easy to replicate, so this one resourceful dad decided to build his kid a Cybertruck body for his electric go kart. Just for fun, he let the kid use it to tow his Mercedes-Benz R-Class MPV. It also does a mean J-turn.

Big Mouth Billy Bass Guitar

Big Mouth Billy Bass Guitar

If you had to pick the most simultaneously annoying and disturbing thing you can buy, it would have to be Big Mouth Billy Bass. Simon the Magpie modified one of these singing fish novelties and incorporated it into a bass guitar. Billy not only can slap the strings with his tail but has been circuit bent to produce some insane noises.

Infinity LED Tail Lights

Infinity LED Tail Lights

We’re not sure if they’re street legal, but we think every car should have taillights like the ones on this 1991 Nissan Skyline GTS-4. Steve Molans of Skeptik Innovations built these custom lights which use RGB LEDs and mirrors to create an infinite effect and can change colors. They still work as normal brake lights and turn indicators.

Typewriter Drum Machine

Typewriter Drum Machine

William Sun Petrus took an old 1920s Remington Portable typewriter and modded it into an electronic drum machine. Basically, it works as a MIDI controller, so it can play whatever sounds he loads into Ableton. He had to remix the live audio so you could hear it over the mechanical clacking sounds though.

Ultra-Realistic GTA V

Ultra-Realistic GTA V

It’s going to be a while before we get a new Grand Theft Auto game with next-gen graphics. In the meantime, modders have turned to applying graphical upgrades to GTA V, like this incredible photorealistic footage of the 2013 sandbox shooter posted by OreoShaman. Check out some nighttime driving footage here.

The Upside-down Van

The Upside-down Van

For no reason other than to say it could be done, Coby from Michigan’s 545 Lawn Care took an old 1985 GMC van and flipped its body 180º. Not only does it drive upside-down, but it also drives in reverse, stupefying everyone it passes on the road. It’s built on a custom chassis and its roof-mounted wheels even spin as it rolls along.

Triple NERF Rival Nemesis

Triple NERF Rival Nemesis

NERF modder Coop772 combined three Rival Nemesis blasters into a tripod-mountable turret that’s perfect for the old spray-and-pray tactic. Thanks to a custom hopper on top, the triple gun can rapidly load up to 1200 rounds with minimal user intervention.
