After making a neodymium magnet float inside a thick copper tube, metalsmith Seth Robinson thought he’d see if he could achieve the same inside of a sphere. What he ended up casting was a cool-looking truncated icosahedron with holes in it so we can see if the magnetic orb inside would levitate. (Thanks, Jesse!)

Like some of his previous projects, metalsmith Seth Robinson made this bronze skull mask using lost PLA casting. He started with a 3D model by Zane Rogers, which he 3D printed, coated in ceramic slurry, and baked in a kiln to remove the plastic. After that, he filled the shell with a mix of copper/tin, cracked off the coating, then cleaned up the excess metal.

Steel rebar is a stiff metal bar typically used to reinforce concrete. But like any metal, with enough force, you can bend it to your whim. Metalsmith Gavin Clark shows us a series of maneuvers he used to tie a length of 1/2″ rebar into a clove hitch knot. We’re impressed that he did it without applying heat.

Metalsmith Hassan Abu-Izmero came up with the idea to build a modular outdoor tool that works as a pickaxe, a saw, and a shovel in one. While there are off-the-shelf tools with similar versatility, we appreciate the work that went into Hassan’s custom-built multitool.

Hammers typically have a solid metal or wood handle and a solid metal head. But this unique hand tool by Hassan Abu-Izmero (with the help of his trainee Damian) conceals that structure under dozens of stainless steel washers welded together. The washers appear to be purely aesthetic, but they sure look cool.

A while back, My Mechanics machined a sweet stainless steel 8-Ball. In this video, he makes a unique display stand for it, using a lathe and a rod of brass which he turned into a helical shape by gradually offsetting the piece before cutting. We wonder if he could create a double helix with a similar technique.
