Awesome Mentos

Mixing Diet Coke and Mentos can have explosive results. JLaservideo wanted to see if he could harness that fizzy energy on a larger scale to lift himself off the ground. After watching others fail miserably or cheat with other ingredients, he did some experimentation and engineered a homebrew jet pack that runs on the stuff.

Gav from The Slow Mo Guys mounted a fancy high-speed camera to the arm of an agile and precise robot. Combined with a remote triggering mechanism, he was able to capture some unique perspectives on their subject – a colorful fountain made from diet soda, Mentos, and their sponsor MiO’s instant drinks.

Cardboard builder The S shows off one of his more entertaining creations, a motor-driven cardboard weapon that fires Mentos. Its magazine holds up to 1000 of the chewy mint candies, enough to eradicate even the worst dragon breath from a distance.

This is a 9-year old joke about a ’90s jingle and an ’80s action flick, but there are lots of reasons to watch it: it’s in HD, that link takes you to YTMND, Best Actor Oscar winner Forest Whitaker acts like a clown in it and the joke is still funny.

This Italian ad for Mentos NOWmints starts out normally enough, with a couple exchanging sweet thoughts at the end of a romantic night, but then it escalates rather quickly in the last 15 seconds. We definitely didn’t see that coming.

Yeah, yeah, we know the Diet Coke and Mentos meme is so 4 years ago, but since this is the first time we’ve seen a vehicle powered by the fizzy stuff, we had to look. So should you, in 3-D.
