Awesome Machinima

Landon’s Animation Wheelhouse makes crazy short films inspired by movies and other pop culture. Things run completely off the rails in this ridiculous animation that pays homage to the Back to the Future movies, as Doc and Marty hoon across time, treating their Type 304 stainless steel DeLorean like they’re competing in a demolition derby.

It’s been a while since we watched a good machinima. Total Refusal’s contemplative short film is set in the world of Grand Theft Auto: V, and offers a glimpse into the life of one of its NPCs. As Edgar drives through Los Santos, he senses something is missing from his life but can’t put his finger on it. Is his world just that boring, or is there more beneath the surface?

The opening credits of King of the Hill are still one of our favorites ever. Udge created this great bit of machinima that replicates the opening of Mike Judge’s classic comedy, but with characters from the Nintendo 3D platformer Donkey Kong 64 along with sounds from the game. Here’s a side-by-side comparison for fun.

The music video for the Talking Heads track Once in a Lifetime is one of the most memorable clips of the 1980s. Using Valve’s Source 2 engine, Corey Laddo managed to perfectly replicate the clip, replacing the lanky and awkward David Byrne with the mysterious G-Man from the Half-Life series. an0nymooose presents an awesomely silly machinima about a man who goes back in time and makes a new friend. Created with Source Filmmaker, which allows creative types to make their own films using assets from Valve’s games like Portal and Team Fortress 2.

“I help anytime, friend.” Animator Ardy [SFM] made this short but impactful machinima about the Giant Blacksmith in Dark Souls. He spends his time toiling away, but in this story he does so in exchange for companionship.

A secret agent must navigate his way through an evil villains lair to save the world from destruction in this fabulously well-executed bit of machinima created using Source Filmmaker by a team of dedicated fans. Picked as Overall Winner in Steam’s 7th Annual Saxxy Awards.

YouTuber Cosmic Contrarian likes his Fallout 4 battles big. Recently, he created a battle in which 30,000 automatron robots took on The Commonwealth. As amazing as this is, be sure to check out some of his other awe-inspiring battle videos.

Here comes the candy cane pain train. Machinima master Tyrannicon turned Santa Claus into post-apocalyptic Boston’s Judge Dredd. Who needs a sleigh when you have power armor? Check out the video’s description for the list of mods used.

The Dark Side of the Force meets the crazy side of Los Santos as Michael and Trevor duke it out Star Wars-style. Sadly this wasn’t made with a Grand Theft Auto V mod. YouTuber Boris the Blade spent a month and a half with After Effects to add the lightsabers.

Just like in the real world, life in Los Santos doesn’t have to have violence or drama all the time. YouTuber NeatMike gives us a taste of the modern-day role playing possibilities in Grand Theft Auto V with this relaxing machinima.
