Awesome Long Exposures

We’ve always been fascinated by the illuminated works of artist Darren “DariusTwin” Pearson. For his latest light painting animation, he captured hundreds of long-exposure images to give motion to a skateboard-riding skeleton. We can only assume this dude skinned more than his knees to end up like this.

If you attach different-weight objects to a string and hang them over a bar, the lighter object can prevent the heavier one from hitting the ground when dropped. As this happens, the rope spirals around the bar. Science teacher Bruce Yeany attached LEDs to the objects and captured long-exposure photos of this fascinating looping pendulum action.

Ivresse Films shot this awesome promo spot for Decathlon ski and snowboard brand Wedze. Filmed in the wee hours at Saint Gervais Mont Blanc, they captured video of three skiers heading down the slopes with LED-wrapped skis and poles. Check out the behind-the-scenes video for a look at the post-production work.

Light painting is the process of capturing long-exposure images of a light source being moved. Most light painting is done by hand and with 2D images. However, it’s possible to use the three-axis movements of a delta-style 3D printer to create 3D light paintings. Ekaggrat Singh Kalsi shows how this is possible. Read more on Hackaday.
