Awesome Light Show

Brass instruments like the tuba and its smaller brother, the sousaphone, make some of the best sounds in a marching band. John Baylies, aka Sousasteps, upgraded his sousaphone in two ways: it controls a synthesizer, so it sounds like an electronic didgeridoo, and its bell is packed with LEDs that change in sync with the music.

Members of the Tesla Club Finland parked their cars and put on a synchronized light show using their vehicles’ headlights and taillights. In all, 687 of the electric vehicles were on hand, and automotive channel Harri Salo posted this aerial footage of the festivities. The light show was put together by Simon Pollock. We can always rely on lighting designer Tom BetGeorge for the best Halloween light shows. For his 2023 show, he kicks things off with a brilliantly illuminated performance of System of a Down’s Toxicity, complete with singing pumpkins, light-up spiders, gravestones, and fire cannons. Lại Trần Ninh Kiềm, aka Killusion, is a Vietnamese performer who combines laser light shows with dance. In this brief video, you’ll get a small taste of his skills with a routine choreographed to Arius’ remix of Blinding Lights. French art collective Scale created this hypnotic mechanical light show that uses computer-controlled motors to rotate 48 individual light bars. The installation, designed for the Constellations festival at Cloître des Récollets is interactive, allowing the public to control the display’s movements, light, and sound.
