Brightech’s lamp looks like it belongs in Deckard’s apartment in Blade Runner. It provides a ring of ambient illumination courtesy of an efficient 12-watt LED light source. Offers three brightness settings and stands about 15″ tall by 14″ wide. In silver, white, or black.
Developed as an alternative to kerosene lamps, the Consol Solar Jar has four LEDs underneath its lid and a battery charged by the solar panel on top of the lid. It gives an hour of light for every hour of sunlight, has a clever magnetic switch, and can also be charged via MicroUSB.
Designer Paul Foeckler’s Split Grain creates these modern, yet organic lighting fixtures by slicing layers of reclaimed wood, hand selected by the artist, then sectioned into layers and floated apart with metal rods to expose the warm ambient LED light source inside.
Glen Lewis-Steele’s made-to-order LED lamp looks like a cube that changes its shape as you move around it. In fact, it’s not even a cube, and the LED isn’t inside it. But perhaps its greatest illusion is that it doesn’t look like something that should cost as much as a laptop.
Artist Toby Boswell of Pale Rider Handmade has perfected a metalworking process to create these wonderful spherical lamps from recycled bicycle gears. Measures ~15″ dia. and sits on a wood base. Toby also offers the spheres by themselves, and a pendant is in the works.
